“I know but I couldn’t help it. I was trying to be the bigger person. At the end of the day, I didn’t know her mom all like that, but I did know her and to hear that she died was really sad to me regardless of me and Tatiana’s friendship or their lack of. Death is so final, and I knew she didn’t get along with her mom. My heart was hurting for her.”
“And look where that got you cause all I remember was you going up to Tatiana and her hauling back and knocking you into the shelf full of candy bars and shit went everywhere. When you started giving her a run for her money, dude stepped in which caused for me to get involved. The way I saw it, he had no business putting his hands on you.”
“He was trying to break us up then when he said she was pregnant to be honest I kind of felt bad. I couldn’t tell she was pregnant because she’s so curvy as is. I’m not the type of chick that fights pregnant women. It’s never that serious too me but like you said she hit me first, so I had to do what I had to do.”
“That was some crazy ass shit.”
“It absolutely was some crazy ass shit. So, to answer your question, hell nawl, I ain’t talked to Tatiana and I don’t plan to any time soon. I’m good with going on with my life and not ever saying shit else to her funky ass again.”
“Fuck her and her punk ass dude. The way I see it they both some lames, so they deserve each other. I’m glad I didn’t catch acase over they simple asses either. The only good that came from me and Tatiana messing around was you.”
“Awww Jamal that was so sweet of you to say!” I gushed while blushing.
“For real Trista, you my nigga one hundred grand for real for real. You’re the only female I’ve ever been with that makes me feel like a man. You make me want to strive to be a better version of me just by how driven you are. I been waitin’ for you to switch up on me like your girl did, especially once you left for school, but you haven’t yet. That’s why I fucks with you the long way. You a real one and I ain’t about to mess that shit up for real, for real.”
“Awe Jamal, you got me blushin’. I can’t wait for you to get here in the morning. I miss you and can’t wait to see you in person. I’m over video chatting and phone calls.”
“I agree, baby. I miss you, too.”
“I’m so excited about us moving in together too. I’m starting to really see that dorm life is not the move for me.”
“I’m looking forward to us living together too. I’m actually excited to be moving out of boring ass Illinois and down to the ATL.”
“I love it down here. When we got approved for the apartment, I was too excited. Then for them to let me move in when last semester ended last week was a blessing. I just hope you like how I decorated the place and set everything up.”
“As long as it’s not too girl, I’m sure I’ll like it. Just know I’ll be adding my manly touch ‘cause I need to mark my territory. Georgia State wasn’t on my list of choices for schools, but now I’m kinda excited and that’s all because of you.”
“I just hope we’re going to be okay because the South is a big difference then from the Midwest. Aside from the weather being better, the people down here are so much nicer. You know back home if you say hello or greet someone in passing folks bethinking you on some bullshit trying to rob or sneak them but not down here. I love being here and I love my HBCU. I know you never originally planned to attend an HBCU, so the fact that you transferred to one, just to be close to me, says a lot, a whole lot.”
“Oh yeah, what does it say?” Jamal asked trying to sound extra sexy.
“It says you might like me a little bit.”
“Just a little bit, huh. How much do you like me?”
“Mmmmm—”
“Damn Trista, don’t bust a vessel thinking too hard.” Jamal chuckled causing me to laugh.
“You know I like you a lot. Stop playing, Jamal.”
“How much is a lot?”
“I don’t know. A lot is a lot I guess,” I blushed.
The truth was I was in love in Jamal. It had been a little over three months since I’d seen him and my body was jonesing something serious for his touch. I was looking forward to seeing him in the morning. He was moving down to Atlanta with me so that we could be closer while we finished school together. Tatiana didn’t appreciate Jamal because he didn’t fit her standard, but he was everything I looked for in a guy and then some and clearly the feeling was mutual because he was always making sure to give me the type of attention I needed to feel secure in our relationship, especially with us having to be apart.
“How about you show me how much.”
“I already plan to as soon as you get here. What time do you think you’ll get here?”
Jamal was driving down to Georgia alone from Chicago. Off and on during his drive down he’d call me so that I could talk to him and keep him entertained while on the road. He had just stopped to fill up before he called me. I was more anxious than a kid in a candy or toy store awaiting his arrival. I planned tojump his bones and give him my best performance as soon as he stepped foot through the front doorway.
“You sound like you anxious?”
“If only you knew.”
Knock! Knock! Knock!
