I asked her as I stepped away from my dissipating protective barrier. The woman with gorgeous blue-green eyes smiled at me before responding.
“Let’s discuss all that after Armand does me a favor.” Her gaze turned to him, and he smiled as brightly as she did.
“You didn’t even have to ask, Moon Goddess.”
Armand cupped the human woman’s cheek with one palm and clasped her shoulder with his other.
“Hi, beautiful.”
His eyes seemed to flicker between his natural shade of brown and his vampiric red ones.
The woman smiled at him widely.
“Well, thank you for saying that, but I’m more worried about my baby. Do you think the bright lighthurt her? Should I take a trip to the ER for excessive UV exposure or something?”
Armand smiled again before responding.
“Your baby is a very healthy and happy girl. I know this because you saw me in the ER as the doctor on call. It was only a mild rash. A little aloe skin cream will help your baby. Do you remember?” The woman nodded.
“You then returned home and had a normal, nothing out of the ordinary kind of day.” Armand continued.
“But what about all the paranormal I witnessed between those powerful witches?” She said as she glanced in my direction.
Armand grasped her hands. His eyes radiated an even deeper red as he continued to compel her to forget what she’d seen.
“You were watching an episode of the TV series Spellbound.”
The woman smiled.
“I always loved that show! The original one—not the remake. That one wasn’t as good, but only in my opinion, of course. Well, I should go. It’s almost time for the baby’s bottle, and I want to be home so I can put her down for the evening.” The woman said with a smile. “Thank you for everything, doctor?”
“Oh! Forgive me! I am Doctor Armand Christianson.”
The woman smiled once more before walking outof the alley and towards the main street in the Financial District of New York City.
“Now that we have settled the risk of exposure, we can head to the penthouse. The quicker I perform the spell to rid you of the curse, the quicker the Nuri witches will be off our backs,” said the Moon Goddess.
We all returnedto the penthouse, and the Moon Goddess began preparing herself for the spell. She blessed our palms with a rosy-smelling oil and water combination.
“I need all of you to form a circle around me and link hands. Because this is a karmically bound spell, I will need everyone’s help. In order for me to break the curse properly, each magical race must be present within the sacred circle.”
“Do we have to chant?”
It was silly of me to ask. Every paranormal movie had witches repeating incantations, but this was new to me, and I wasn’t sure what to expect.
“Yes. You will repeat everything Raven says. I’ll take care of the rest. I work with the surrounding essence to tap into my magic. Once you become more familiar with your witch powers, Sesi, you’ll make up personal chants and spells.” She said to me with a smile, and I couldn’t help but return one in her direction.
We all clasped hands and within seconds, a white, bluish, and silvery light surrounded us and formed a dome similar to the one I emit for protection. The light entered me and Sylus, and I instantly felt a calm wash over me. Then a blast of light sparked and dissipated quickly. Raven began reading the spell from the open book at her feet.
“Goddess of the moon’s bright light, we call upon you to break this Nuri curse tonight.” She nodded at us to repeat her, and we did. “The time has long passed for misguided karmic wrong, so with your wisdom, guide the Nuris from their negative forlong. So mote it be.”
The Moon Goddess smiled and clapped her hands once. “Do you feel that?”
My brows knitted. I still sensed a calmness inside me, but I wasn’t sure if that was what she was talking about.
“The peace within you. Do you sense it?”
“Yes.”
