“I don’t think they know about her. In fact, it was hard gaining the little information I could on her. I’ll refer to my grimoire for more information about how she could suppress her shifter side. The wolves nearly killed off all known hybrids in the New England area when Lenox murdered Rogan. So there isn’t much on the subject, but my grandmother wrote what she knew.”
“Okay, good.”
“How are you going to keep her under your protection? I mean, she will eventually go home after her workday is done.”
“For now, I’ll make up as many excuses as I can to keep her with me, whether planning for the upcoming gala or a food tasting. And the coven can patrol the condo complex until I buy that property and move into the vacant condo next to hers. She’ll be safe at the hotel since I already own it and the clan has orders to patrol the area as of right now.” Brooks said as he fired off a text.
“Do you really think you can become her neighbor? Don’t you think she’d get a little suspicious about that?”
“Do you have any better ideas?”
“No, I guess not.”
“Now go appear to be busy. Teagan will be entering the office any minute, according to Damon.”
“How’d he get the morning detail?”
“The others pulled a double shift on last night’s patrol because Tyler is back in the city.”
“The last thing we need is for that werewolf to put two and two together with Teagan, Brooks!”
“Exactly. Now please make the appropriate calls so I can acquire Macklowe Properties and Compass Development on One Wall Street. They are in a bit of a standstill with the construction because of Covid, so supposedly, they are eager for a quick sale.”
“She’s coming,” Anne said in a whisper. She cleared her throat before continuing. “Will do, Mr. Bradley.”
As Anne turned to leave, Teagan walked into Brooks’s office.
“I hope I’m not interrupting anything important. I can come back if you need me to.” Teagan said as she waved her hand towards the door.
“I was just leaving. He’s all yours.” Anne said as she walked by her and headed toward her office.
Teagan turned to Brooks.
“So, boss, what’s on the agenda for today?”
“We’ve got some party planning during the day and a tasting to do this evening for the gala.”
“Okay? So I’m guessing this is going to be a long day?”
“Most likely, yes.”
Tonight would be the full moon, and that worried Brooks. Shifters didn’t really need the moon to shift, but all shifters could draw on its power, strengthening them during a full moon. He had to find a way to ask her if she was a hybrid, but that wouldn’t be easy. No hybrid would trust a vampire or were after the wolves killed most of them. He had to gain her trust so she’d tell him her secret.
ChapterEight
The morning went by quickly in the office, with Teagan taking notes and offering ideas for fun games to play during the holiday gala event. It was nearly two when Brooks peered at his watch.
“Let’s grab a quick coffee and then head to The Plaza for some prep and the tasting.” He said as he reached for his jacket draped across his chair.
“Sounds good to me. I need a little pick me up, or I’ll fall asleep on you during the tasting.”
They headed to the elevator and down to the lobby, where the limo met them. Giles opened the door, and they both got in.
“Would you like a drink? I usually only stock this with scotch, but I might’ve stashed a bottle of wine in here somewhere.”
“A scotch is fine,” Teagan said with a smile.
Brooks poured two tumblers with a shot in each of them and handed one to Teagan.
