“I want you, Cassidy. More than anything in this world. I want only you.”

“I want you too, Camden.” She said, palming his cheeks.

He clasped both of her hands again and put them up against the elevator’s back wall as his lips kissed her chin and slid down to her exposed collarbone.

The elevator doors flung open, interrupting their moment of heat.

“Come on, let’s get you inside. I promised you a nightcap.”

He fumbled in his pocket until he found his key ring and opened the door. Once inside, Cassidy’s eyes lit up. The corridor was well-lit with a chandelier that wasn’t much different from the restaurant’s. It was brass with tiny dark brown lamp shades. The walls were painted a muted gray, and the woodwork was a stark white in comparison. There wasn’t that much art adorning the walls, but what was up was bold and modern and just what she would expect being inside his world.

“You have a lovely home.”

“Thanks, but this is just the hallway entrance. Come on, let me show you the great room. I have an array of liquors to choose from. Do you like whiskey or brandy?”

“I like both, but I think I’ll have a glass of brandy. I haven’t had one of those in so long.”

“Really? How come?”

Cassidy shrugs.

“I just never think of picking one up at the liquor store when I’m there. It’s so much easier to grab wine instead.”

“I can appreciate that.” He said as he grabbed a rocks glass, a snifter, and two liquor bottles.

He poured the brandy into the snifter first and handed it to Cassidy, and then poured a glass of whiskey, neat for himself.

“Oh! I didn’t even ask if you liked it neat or not. I just assumed.”

“This is good, Cam. Honestly, I don’t know any other way of drinking brandy.” She said with a chuckle.

Camden motioned towards the leather couch in the room that was to the right of the bar. Cassidy placed her drink on a coaster on the glass-topped coffee table and sunk into the sofa. The buttery leather hugged her curves like a glove. Camden placed his drink next to hers on the table and sat beside her. His thigh pressed against hers as he wrapped an arm around the back of the sofa.

Cassidy smiled a little and then took a sip of her drink before looking around the entire penthouse.

“How’s the drink?” He asked her.

“It’s good. I like it. Brandy is one of my favorite nightcaps.”

“I’ll make sure to remember that for next time.”

Cassidy fumbled with her glass, placed it on the coffee table, and then turned to face Camden.

“Camden, I said yes to this Non-date turned date against my better judgment, and I even kissed you against my better judgment, too. And I really don’t think being here is a good idea, either. We work together, and the last thing I want to do is jeopardize everything you’ve worked so hard to achieve if this doesn’t work out between us. You know the papzz will have a field day with the two of us. I understand that more than anyone.”

“I want to ask you a question and an honest answer.” He said with a nod.

“Okay?”

“If we met at a bar—just happenstance instead of in my office for your interview. Would you give this a second thought?” He asked as he gestured a hand between the two of them.

“Well, probably not. However, the money does kinda make me shy away, too. I mean, I’m not rich anymore, and I don’t want you thinking I’m looking to recreate what Eric took away from me.”

“Okay, if you met me in a bar and I was a manager instead of the head of a company, would you give this a second thought like you are now?”

“No. Definitely not.”

“So you’d trust the bond we are forming more in a comfortable setting rather than what’s going on now?”
