“Fuck! You don’t fight fair, Lay.”

I laugh while covering my mouth to control the school girl giggles falling heavily from my mouth at the defeat in Quintyn’s tone. My humor slows when Quintyn turns onto a narrow pathway that isn’t fitting to be labeled as a street. Rocks hit the side of the vehicle and the thought of becoming a real life victim of a horror story has my heart rate increasing. A couple seconds later, the trees clear and a cabin comes into view.

“Ooh, I love the red brick and it doesn’t look like wolves will be capable of clawing their way inside to maul me in my sleep.”

“You’re so damn dramatic.” Shaking his head, Quintyn comes to a stop and puts the vehicle in park before exiting and moving to the passenger side to open my door. “Come on, Lay. Your weekend of bliss starts now.”

Exhaling the air gathering in my lungs, I grab my purse and put my hand in Quintyn’s while exiting the vehicle. Feeling the warmth of Quintyn’s palm has the anxiety from seconds ago falling away. In all the time that I’ve known Quintyn, I have never once doubted his ability to be whatever I need him to be. This secluded cabin in these woods won’t have me finding a reason to believe anything different.

“Oh my God! I had no idea how much I would enjoy this.” Shifting in the water, I close my eyes while enjoying feeling Quintyn’s heat absorbing into my back as I lay against his chest.

After a quick yet simple meal, Quintyn and I are relaxing in the hot tub that’s on the back deck of the cabin. The only sound I can make out are crickets as they sing whatever melody they’re bellowing through the woods. Light R&B music is playing, providing a different type of vibe for the setting I’m enjoying.

“I did. Sometimes escaping the daily routine can give you a perspective you didn’t realize you needed. This weekend is about having the ability to live in the moment while enjoying what we are. Carving out time for us to be in our bliss is something I will always pencil into our schedules.”

“Thank you. I appreciate you doing this and always thinking out of the box when it comes to how we get our time together.”

“Always.”

“Can I ask you a question?”

“Of course.”

“How many babies do you want?”

My body shifts from Quintyn’s laughter and a grin forms as my eyes open before I shift to stare into his eyes.

“Seriously? Or do you even want kids?”

“As long as you’re the woman having them, I’m down for however many you allow us to have.”

“In that case, let’s go for a dozen.”

Quintyn’s eyes stretch as a smirk forms before he opens his mouth to speak. “How about we play it by ear? I ain’t about to let you play in my face if I agree and then you try to shut down the reproduction shop after baby number two. Just know that I’m down for whatever.” Leaning down, his soft lips connect with my forehead, causing warmth to spread through my body.

“Okay. Sounds like a plan. Where do you see us in five years?”

“Stuck in the allure that your love has cocooned me in since I’ve known that my heart smiled at the knowledge of being in love with you.”

“Aww, baby. That’s so sweet.”

“Sweet is for cookies. I’m being straight up.”

“I know.” The steady rhythm of Quintyn’s heartbeat while lying against his chest has me confident and secure in his declaration.

“Are you pruned enough, or can we get out? I want to feel our hearts chest to chest.”

With that statement, how on earth could I reject or do anything but make his request happen?

“Oh, baby, we have plenty of time for pruning later. There is no better place than feeling the totality of our synced cadence.”

“Say less. Raise up so I can grab your towel.”

The Next Day

“Oh shit. What the hell am I chewing on?” The frown and tightness around Quintyn’s eyes has me staring intently as he pulls something out of his mouth. “Is this an eggshell?”

The question is rhetorical because the white sliver he’s holding between his fingers is all the confirmation he needs.
