“Okay, fellas, you all know why we’re here. Someone attempted to run Giovanna off the road yesterday evening. Cara, Sara, and Tech have been going over the surveillance in the area all morning. What do you all have?” he asked as he looked at the three of them.
Sara blew out a frustrated breath. “Nothing so far. The plates on the SUV were missing, and the windows were tinted black. There really isn’t much to go off of.”
I dragged my palm down my face, highly irritated. This was not what I wanted to hear. I knew these kinds of things took time, but it made me feel like a sitting duck.
“I know this isn’t what you want to hear, Capone, but you know we’ll make sure Giovanna is always safe. Whenever you have to work and she’s out in public, I’ll make sure two of the prospects are with her.”
“Thanks, Viper. I just don’t know who could be behind this. I thought I had gotten her worrisome in-laws in check, but now I’m not too sure.”
“It wasn’t them,” Cara stated with confidence.
Everyone sat up at the table. Her fingers were moving like lightning over her keyboard. After she didn’t say anything else, I became impatient.
“Well, how do you know that?”
“Because I’m not a believer in coincidences. What are the odds we have a situation at the spa with Jamie’s cousin, and as soon as we leave, Giovanna is damn near run off the road?And,that bitch has been missing for weeks. Quit her job, moved out of her apartment, and no one has heard from her since.”
I was confused about the first part of her statement because I knew nothing about a situation with Jamie’s cousin. “What happened at the spa?”
Cara frowned. “Giovanna didn’t tell you?”
When I shook my head no, she began filling me in on the events that took place at the spa. Knowing Giovanna, it probably slipped her mind. She was completely scrambled after that attack. “Okay, so Jamie’s cousin was definitely petty and out of line for what she did, but that doesn’t make Jamie a killer, Cara. Every woman isn’t Candy and Ivy.” Torch repeated the same words I said to her not too long ago.
Cara rolled her eyes while rubbing her temples. “I am forever going to be killing bitches because of y’all.”
A few of the brothers chuckled while some gave her a side-eye.
“Cara, please. You will be killing in general. As soon as somebody looks at your ass wrong, you’re reaching for your nearest weapon,” Thor jested.
“Yeah, but there would be fewer bodies if you all stopped screwing these psychotic, delusional-ass bitches,” she shot back.
That made the brothers roar with laughter. She said that with a straight face, and she meant it.
Once the laughter died down, Viper banged his gavel on the table, regaining everyone’s attention. “Tech, Sara, and Cara, I want you to try and locate Jamie. From there, we can see what she’s been up to and if she was the one behind the attack. Does anyone have any objections?”
When no one objected, Viper banged the gavel one final time, ending church. As we made our way out of the room, I couldn’t help but think of everything Cara had just said.
I wasn’t ruling Jamie out, but I just couldn’t believe she was capable of something like this. She was always levelheaded. I couldn’t see her murdering someone. I just hoped I was right about her. I would hate to have to take Jamie out, but for Giovanna, I wouldn’t even hesitate.
