The only differences were the many valers, wrapped in blankets, looking lost and frightened, seated under the dark dome.

I spotted several people I’d met at the town meeting handing food and drinks.

Oh. “I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to lend a hand?”

I could feel so many aches, broken ankles, maimed limbs, torn ligaments.

Lucian chuckled. “You were born to be a Regis, weren’t you?”

“I’m not a Regis, Lucian,” she pointed out.

Excellent point. I found another thing more important than sleeping right now.

I had to marry this woman. I’d tied her to me by all immortal laws; but I needed her bound in every possible way.

“Yet.”

KLEOS

Itook two showers before being clean enough to consider soaking in a bath, and even that felt like an indulgence, given the mess in and out of the house.

The Regis Manor opened its doors to the worst of the wounded, young children whose parents were either hurt or not yet found, old people, all stunned and desperate. If I hadn’t been covered in blood and ichor—my own in both case—as well as days worth of sweat, I would have argued when Lucian sent me to the bathroom. I only relented because he pointed out he also intended to do the same, leaving poor Cassius to playing host to people mildly terrified of him.

He had a bit of help from Phobos, hopping from kid to kid to play and distract them. Zazel for his part, only consented to return to his more portable size for food, before returning to his gigantic proportions. But did he let kids stroke his soft fur, and sneak in the occasion hug without eating anyone.

Dragging my limbs up after soaking for so long seemed like an ordeal I didn’t want to face, but Lucian made it worth it when he walked to our ensuite, a towel around the waist, his hair still slightly damp.

“Adrian would like to remind you you still owe him chocolate cake.”

I gasped. “I completely forgot! It’s like, five days overdue.”

“He can wait another day or two.”

I was already out of the bath, reaching for a fluffy towel. “No, I owe him, big time. And I’m quite sure tons of other people wouldn’t mind baked goods right about now.”

“I see I’m going to have to be persuasive,” Lucian drawled, lazily tugging at my towel. “Let me put it that way. They get to eat sweet things after I’ve had my fill of my treat.”

Next thing I knew, I was tossed over the side of the bed, his head right between my thighs.

I stopped complaining and started moaning instead.

Lucian lapped at my folds as though he liked them more than cupcakes as I whirled and wailed desperately, expertly driving me insane.

He made me come with his tongue, then with his fingers, before finally granting me what I’d begged for and sinking into me.

Lucian, ever the proficient, precise lover, knew just how to take me to the edge, and then pause, again and again.

“Please!” I whined, the third time he did that, desperately close to the edge once again.

He grinned. “It seems like my beautiful witch wants to come.”

His thumb started to circle my clit, softly, slowly. I knew that game. Hadn’t he done just that the very first time we’d fucked.

“What do you want?” I snapped.

“Oh, it’s rather simple,” he drawled against my nipple. “All you have to do is say yes. Then you get to come.”
