Picking her up, he swung her around, kissing the hell out of her and not caring who was watching as he did. When he pulled away and let her stand on her own two feet again he said, “I’m not sure I can stand being away from you again when I have to leave.”

“I hate being away from you too,” she agreed.

“The end of my contract with the Navy is coming up next year. Instead of reenlisting, I could?—”

“Dean Sinclair! Don’t you dare give up your career for me.”

“Well I’m not letting you give up your career for me,” he countered.

“Maybe you don’t have to.” She smiled.

“What’s going on?” he asked.

After all they’d been through and countless hours on video chat he could tell when she was hiding something from him.

“There’s one more surprise your mom couldn’t spoil because I didn’t tell her or anybody. Liam arranged an interview for me for a position at a university… in Virginia,” she added.

“Seriously?” he asked, afraid to get too excited and jinx it.

“Seriously.” She nodded.

“But what about when I’m gone for those six months? You’ll be down there alone.”

She dismissed his concern with the flick of a wrist. “I’ll be too busy to miss you.”

He frowned.

“Kidding.” She couldn’t control her smile as she said, “If I get the job?—”

“You’ll get it,” he interrupted.

“If I get it,” she repeated, “it wouldn’t be until the start of the fall semester.”

He widened his eyes. “When I’ll be back.”

“When you’ll be back.” She nodded and continued to smile.

Damn. One more thing he was going to owe Liam for. But with Tessa in his arms looking so happy, and the possibility of her being right there in Virginia when he got off the boat, there was no way in hell he was going to complain about it.
