“What do I get if I win?”

“Whatever you want, Princess.”

Shit. That accidentally slipped out.

Jazmine’s shoulders tense and a scowl forms on her lips. “Don’t call me that,”

She pauses for a moment; her green eyes find mine once more. The cunning thought behind them is evident as Jazmine’s mouth curves into a smirk.

Oh no.

“We play, but if I win, you have to sing a song of my choosing on stage when karaoke starts.”

She wants me to sing in front of everyone. This bet has the possibility of being the most embarrassing moment of my life, but it’s only fair the stakes are high for the both of us. Based on her immediate rejection of my flirting, Jazmine doesn’t seem like the type of girl that gives her number out to random guys.

“You don’t want my number?” I tease.

Irritation flashes across Jazmine’s eyes, as she holds my gaze. I’ll take that as a no.

I set up the table, while Jazmine finds the pool cues. She smiles and hands me one.

“Do you want to break?” she asks.

So, she does know how to play. “Isn’t it ladies first?”

Jazmine scoffs and walks to the end of the pool table, lining up her cue with the white ball, she hits it.Hard.

The balls smash into each other, one of the solids falls into the left pocket. Shit. Jazmine catches my surprised gaze and smugness spreads across her face.

Beginner’s luck, right?

“Did I forget to mention I have a twin brother?” she says, living up her next shot. “And he taught me everything I needed to know, regarding both pool and—” Jazmine hits another solid into a pocket, this time into the one closest to me. “—What the true intentions of arrogant boys are,”

I’m frozen in place, my eyes unable to leave her body. The pool cue is leaning against my frame as I wipe my palms over my blue wash jeans. I’ve never been so enticed by a woman before. This isn’t good.

But at this point, I think I’m going to let Jazmine Allen ruin me.

Chapter 2

August

Jazmine Allen

If you told me I was standing next to trouble, I would wholeheartedly agree.

Theodore Knight reeks of ego, privilege and sex. His floppy blonde hair doesn’t need to be styled, it falls into place perfectly and his blue eyes will suck you into his vortex and never let you out.

Okay, I’m being slightly dramatic. But I can't deny that he is attractive. When he challenged me to a game of pool, I was in. I tried not to seem too eager, however, I didn’t really care. I just want to take him down a peg or two. Or three.

On my first shot I was able to get a solid into the pocket. I couldn’t hold back my smirk when Theodore realised, I wasn’t an idiot and knew how to play pool.

When I told him my twin brother—Jayden Allen, taught me it wasn’t a lie either. There wasn’t much to do in the small beach town we grew up in, pool being one of the games to pass the time.

At our graduation ceremony, Jayden told me he was moving to Lakewood University on a sporting scholarship, so I decided to come too.

I moved into my apartment today and it really is different moving to a big city for university, but I knew I needed a change. The worst thing about small towns is exactly that: it is too fucking small.

Everyone knows everyone, especially the Allens. Our parents are the stars of the town, with my mum Ashley Allen, Mayor of Meadow Beach while George Allen, my dad is a retired professional surfer who owns a business on the beach.
