“So are you, Rand. So are you.”

One last kiss to her lips and Rand backed to the edge of the trees. Blix could hardly see him for the shadows, but when he started running, branches shook and snow fell. She heard him just before he emerged. In awe, she watched him leap into the air and when he came down, he landed on four legs, a full-blown reindeer.

She’d seen the shift many times, but had never witnessed Rand shifting and awe was the only word to describe it.

Antlers reached high and a shaggy brown coat of fur covered him. He was indeed an animal, but when he ambled up to her and she gazed into his intense and playful eyes… He was her Rand, her love.

“Have a safe flight,” she whispered, reaching to pet him.

He nuzzled her neck, warmth seeping into her from him, and then he was gone, galloping around the side of the cabin and disappearing from her sight.

His wishes and hers combined to give them both something neither had known how to make happen before.

And it was all because of a basket of cookies.

Sleigh bells suddenly pierced the silent night and she looked up. It was definitely going to be a very Merry Christmas.
