I kept waiting to feel the loss, but it never came. Maybe having three conduits compensated—I didn’t know for sure, and I didn’t care.
I did, however, wonder if the Mageri council had ever intended to send Dralos back.
Yeah, the past four weeks had been hectic, and our promised vacation began today. Just four nights with my guys on the coast. Alone. I couldn’t wait to have them all to myself.
I returned Curo’s wink and took my position on the arcane symbol.
“Are you ready?” Gray asked.
“Let’s do this.”
Gray placed his hands on the candlestick and began to hum low in the back of his throat.
The vibrations of power rose through the soles of my feet and sang inside me. The circle began to glow and then a spectral form appeared beside the bike.
Seven feet tall and grinning from ear to ear.
“Dax?” I stared at him through a sheen of tears. “Really?”
“I never got to be your father growing up, Adi, but I’d like to be your guide and your partner on the road. If you’ll have me.”
I blinked, releasing the tears. “Yes. Yes, please.”
Dax looked over my head. “Hello, son.”
“Dax…” Spectre’s tone was thick with emotion.
“Make it happen, Gray,” Dax said.
“Dax Storm, do you commit to being Adienne Blackmore’s road partner.”
“Yes.”
“Do you take this vessel as your new body?”
Dax touched the bike. “I do.”
“Then from this day forth you are bound.”
Dax smiled and then vanished.
“Where did he go?” I looked to Gray.
“Touch your bike,” Spectre said.
I crossed the circle and pressed my palm to the bike. “Dax?”
I’m here, Adi. Shall we go for a ride?
I grabbed my helmet and shoved it on. “I can do one better. There’ve been fang sightings on the border of Frostgate. I say we check it out.”
As I rode out into the late afternoon, with the most important men in my life at my side, there was no doubt in my mind that this was exactly where I wanted to be.
