He will be raised learning about the gambling industry, so he’s ready to take over for you when you retire. If you fight us on giving him your title, there will be consequences. All the ones you love will be at risk.

You’ll need to stick to this arrangement. If you don’t, there will be hell to pay.

Until next time,

Isabella

She has this pregnancy figured out and how it will benefit her to the last detail. I’ll need to figure out how to remove her from the picture.

She’s going to be mad about not getting the money she’s supposed to be paid for giving my son to the mob. No doubt, she’ll turn around and gun for me.

I could use both of these things in my favor in a custody battle. I create a file and filter all correspondences from her into a record for my attorney. And with Aiden’s help, I’ll ensure my son doesn’t end up in my mother’s hands.

My life is about to change drastically. If I get full custody of him, I’ll need to figure out my work commitments.

My father managed to raise two sons all by himself while growing Efron Worldwide. There’s no reason I can’t. He’d probably be able to give me a lot of pointers.

The only thing left to do is get Dorothy back and keep myson away from the mob. Nothing is more important than those two things.

I shake my head at how protective I feel about him. I don’t want him.

Or do I?

My thoughts go back to Jonah’s question.

Who do I want to be like?

My dad or my mother?

And there’s my answer. My mother may think I’m just like her, but she doesn’t know me very well.

I will never be like her and abandon a son who needs a good father. I can and will be that for him.

The problem is that even with my mother out of the way, her mobster husband may still expect him. That means I have a lot to worry about.

CHAPTER 30

JAMISON

The lovein my heart swells as I look around my apartment. This is exactly what will help Dori.

She and Tom, her bodyguard for today, return right on time. She walks out of the foyer and our eyes meet.

The stress is set in her tense jaw and shoulders. “Hey, babe. Why are you hovering by the door?”

“I had a feeling you’d need this.” I take her into my arms and find her pouty lips.

She sinks into the kiss the second our tongues swipe over each other. My muscles relax just by having her in my arms. I can only hope Tom has excused himself to the guest room.

I pull away from our kiss. “How are you? I’m sure saying goodbye to Melanie was hard.”

Dori steps out of my arms and places her purse on a bench I have in the foyer. “I cried like I knew I would, but it was compounded by Aiden.”

“We should talk about that, but first, I have a surprise for you.”

“A surprise?” Her head turns slightly, giving me a curious sideways glance.

“I wanted to do something special for you, and then wecan talk about Mel and Aiden all night. But if you need to talk first, we can do that too. I just thought… Let me show you and you can decide.” I take her hand and lead her to the living room.
