“Yeah?” the wolf looked around the room, trying to piece it all together.

“Torvan has to fix this, right? I mean, I think that’s what has to happen if I overheard everything over the group link correctly. It’s still strange listening in on the Moonscale Flight Link. Everyone’s talking head-to-head all the time, making it difficult to parse out the details,” Crilus said.

“Yeah. If he wants to stay a part of his current soul family, he has to save Morvan and make this right,” Mori nodded.

“Then you know what we have to do,” Crilus said, his scent turning grim. “I won’t be the best thing for Torvan, but that man will never make it on his own. If he was this bad surrounded by decent ass people, he’ll be the next Grady Moore or Ginger Barrell if we leave him on his own.”

“Ghosts can do that?” I asked Crilus.

“Ghosts can do what they need to,” Crilus nodded.

I handed off the gun to Teal and crossed the room to squat down by Georgie’s head. I tussled his greasy brown hair and let out a long breath. Tony had gone quiet, but the omega bear wascursing up a storm. I sort of felt bad for him. Would I become part of a crime ring for Rho? Only if I couldn’t buy him out of it.

“Torvan chose his own path,” Georgie growled. “Why should we die because he chose wrong?”

“Why did you choose to do what you did?” I asked.

“Are you even sure of what I did?” Georgie let out a bitter laugh.

“Exploited someone with a gambling addiction to keep your nose candy habit up,” I nodded. “Look, I didn’t set the bar. That was my ancestors, but the thing is you sent an assassin after me, bud. Your guy shot at me in a room with my mate. My true-fucking-mate. You know how that makes me feel, right? You know the anger churning inside you right now? It’s nothing compared to how I feel about it because I wasn’t even fucking involved!”

“Smash his head! Smash his head! Smash his brainless head!”my dragon chanted inside his inner sanctum.

“So, I’m going to give you a chance here – not to save yourself, Georgie. It’s too late for that. If you’re going to suck someone’s dick, at least make sure you like them enough not to force them into killing their brother. Torvan was a dick but you’re just a man-ho. Still, that’s not your omega’s fault, is it? So, tell me. When did you meet him?”

“Two days ago. He barely knows anything. Only that you owe me money,” Georgie said.

“I owe you money?” I laughed. “Do you think he wants to die with you? I know sometimes given the chance mates like to go together. I’d go with Rho.”

“He needs to live,” Georgie said. “His only crime is being wrapped up in the true-mate magic. He needs to live. You know what I mean, man?”

Indigo sniffed the guy’s neck and retracted his claws from the omega bear’s stomach.

“I can’t smell a baby, but they’ve only known each other two days,” Indigo said.

“See! You can’t leave my kid sireless!” Georgie protested, pushing back against Crilus.

“I have a cousin who’d say that growing up without his bio sire was the best fucking thing that ever fucking happened to him,” Crilus growled.

“What if he can’t do it on his own?” Georgie asked.

“He won’t be on his own. He’s a bear. If it’s proven his only crime was trying to save your ass, he’ll come home with me. He’ll be surrounded by bears who love cubs,” Mori chimed in.

“You’re not a bear,” the omega bear rolled his eyes as Mori crouched down to examine the already healing wounds on his stomach.

“I am genetically half a bear,” Mori shrugged. “Now, do you want to say goodbye to Georgie and leave with me, or do you want to die with him?”

The omega bear’s scent spiked with fear and Georgie bucked up with a roar, shifting under Crilus and managing to knock him off his back.

“Damn it!” Crilus swore but Teal was ready. He fell forward on top of the bear over the middle of his back. The bear roared underneath him, flailing his furry limbs and roaring loud enough to wake the dead.

My heart skipped a beat. How the fuck had this become so messy so quickly? If Georgie was a sire the baby wasn’t far enough along yet to be called an embryo. What the fuck were we doing?

“That’s exactly what I’d like to know,” Clarence Moonscale said from the doorway, picking up my thoughts over the Moonscale Dragon Flight link.

“Grandpa,” Cobalt was the first to speak. “We’re just taking care of a little business.”

“That fox has urinated all over himself, Cobalt,” Clarence Moonscale, leader of the Moonscale Dragon Flight, said as if none of us in the kitchen had eyes or noses.
