“I said you looked cold. Do you want to lay under the covers for a minute to warm up?” His chin dips and he flicks his eyes towards my bed which is pristinely made and looking like an open invitation.

“You wanna get under the covers”—I point to the bed before pointing back at myself—“with me?” My voice tips up at the end in sheer surprise.

“Yes? Is that a problem?”

“I mean, I offered to go slow but if you’re already trying to get me in bed, who am I to say no?” I joke.

He takes a few steps closer to me and grabs my hand, pulling me towards the bed. “Would you just shut up and come on?”

“Mmm, first he’s grumpy, then he’s bossy. It’s a good thing you’re cute and I like your dog or else I wouldn’t be crawling into bed with you so quickly.”

He gives me his signature eye roll before pulling the overstuffed duvet of my bed back. He lets me crawl in first before crawling in after me. Rolling onto my side to face him, I tuck my hands under my head in a prayer position and look at him. Lying on his back and staring at the ceiling, he looks like he’s deep in thought. I want nothing more than to have the ability to reach inside his head and see what’s going on in it. Unable to hold myself back from touching him, I extend my index finger to his face and start to trace his features. He turns his head to look at me and his smile grows when I trace that too.

“You know I thought you were cute the first time I saw you,” I admit boldly.

“At our first meeting?” He furrows his eyebrows, trying to remember.

“No, before that. When you so rudely ran into me as I was coming into the coffee shop before we met the first time.”

“I’m sorry, but if I remember correctly, youran intome. The proper thing to do is let the person from inside exit first. That’s how we do it here in the States, mate.” He leans into the last word. The English accent he attempted is so bad I can’t help but laugh.

“Well whatever the protocol is, I thought you were cute. Even if you were a little grumpy.” I give him a wink to let him know I’m just teasing. He turns his face away from me and looks back at the ceiling.

“I wish people would stop calling me that,” he mutters under his breath. Wiggling myself closer to him, I wrap an arm over his waist and press my lips into his shoulder.

“Why? I think your grumpiness is cute. It’s endearing,” I offer with a few more kisses on his exposed skin. It’s warm and soft and I want to keep my lips pressed to it forever.

“Endearing? You think me being a grump is endearing?” He raises a brow at me.

“Yes, love. I think your grumpiness is endearing.” A kiss. “And I think your need for order and control is nice.” Another kiss. “And I think the way you care about the people in your life is incredibly sexy.” A third kiss. He watches each time I kiss him with an almost dream-like gaze before turning his focus back on the ceiling.

“You know, I talked to my therapist about you.”

“You did?” My voice doesn’t hide my surprise.

He nods slowly. “It wasn’t about you specifically, but in a roundabout way it was. I asked her how you knew if you were into someone.”

“You didn’t know if you were into me?” Now it is my turn to raise a brow at him.

“I didn’t know if Icouldbe into you. Like I told you at the studio, I’ve never been with a guy before. I’ve only been with a handful of women in my life, and the ones I have been with I haven’t really had many feelings for anyway.”

“And what did your therapist?—”

“Hanna,” he corrects.

“What didHannahave to say about it?”

“She told me it was a feeling you would know when you felt it. Then she listed off all these specific things that happen when you have a crush on someone. They all pretty much lined up with what I was feeling whenever you were around.”

“You talked to Hanna about having a crush on me?” My voice is small as I stifle a smile.

“Stop it,” he groans, perpetually annoyed.

“That’s the cutest thing ever, I’m touched.” I smile at him as he rolls his eyes again. Then, he rolls over to face me and presses his lips to my forehead. No man haseverkissed me on the forehead. I understand the allure.

“So those feelings she was talking about, did they feel anything like this?” My voice comes out just above a murmur as I drop the hand I have around his waist a little lower, dragging my fingertips along his skin. Goosebumps spring up in anticipation and I hear his breath catch in his throat.

“Uhm, y–yeah, something like that.” He shifts just enough to move closer to me, his body flush with mine. He rolls over to his back again and with me on my side, I havefull access to everything I want. My need for him is growing at a pace I’m not sure I can slow down.
