Ava turned away, trying her best to hide behind me. Now that I thought about it, she had been a little cagey that Saturday when she visited, almost as if she had something to hide.

“Is that little Ava hiding behind you there?” A tall guy approached us both, peering behind my back. I moved with him, shielding her. I didn’t know who he was. He could be a serial killer for all I knew!

I needn’t have worried. Ava stepped out from behind me, as red as a beetroot.

“Hi, Shane. Yes, it’s me.” I’d never seen her act so coy before. Did she like him?

“You fancy coming out with me and the guys later? They’ll all be here in a while, just finishing dressing. We’re heading to a bar for a few drinks.”

“I think we’re coming anyway. Xavier has invited us.” She gestured to me. “This is my brother, Ben. He’s Xavier’s landlord.”

“Oh, nice to meet you, man!” He clapped me on the back, almost knocking me over.

Just then, Xavier and a few of the others appeared, laughing and joking. They were clearly in a good mood. When he saw me, he smiled, striding towards me purposefully.

“Hey, did you enjoy the show?” he asked before leaning in for a kiss. That was a surprise, and I mumbled against his lips.

“What are you doing?” He broke away, stroking his hand down my face.

“I’m saying hello and asking if you enjoyed the show. Aren’t I allowed to do that? OMG, are you not out? Does Ava not know?” He looked horrified, glancing from side to side.

“I’m fine with it.” I laughed. “And Ava sort of knows about us. I was more worried about you.”

“Oh, I don’t give a shit.” He shrugged, looking at the others. “They can like it or lump it.”

“Well, in that case.” I leaned in until I was a hair’s breadth away from his lips. “You won’t mind ifIdo this, then.”

I kissed him forcefully, and he returned it, his hand on the back of my neck. I couldn’t have backed away if I wanted to, but I didn’t. I wanted it to last.

Loud hollering from the other guys and Ava had us breaking the kiss. His lips were swollen, much like when he’d been sucking my cock. I loved that.

“You are one dark horse, Ben. I know we’d talked about it, but I didn’t know you’d actually taken my advice. I’m proud of you.” Ava kissed us both on the cheek. “Aww, my favourite people.”

“So, where are we going?” Shane asked. “They’ll be packed out by the time we get there. Let’s make a move.”

Xavier slung his arm around my shoulder as we made our way to the bar, a spring in his step. He was certainly a different person to this morning, when he’d been nervy and sleeping on the sofa.

“What did you really think of it?” he asked as we walked along.

“I thought it was great, but there was just one thing that disappointed me.”

“Oh, God. My dancing was awful, wasn’t it? I told you I wasn’t any good.”

“Hey, the dancing was fine, and the stripping was top-notch. I missed the erection, though. Where was that when I wanted to see it?”

“Play your cards right, mister, and you might well be seeing that later on tonight.”

“How long do we have to stay out? Can we not sneak home with no one noticing?” I asked.

“Just a couple of drinks, then we can go back home. I want to talk to you first, though, when we get home.”

“I know. I think some things are really overdue, Xavier, and tonight I’d like to rectify that.”

“Okay, one drink and then we’re heading home. Ava will be alright, won’t she? Shane will be more than happy to look after her.” He nodded to them, walking in front and looking very cosy. Definitely something going on there.

“One drink it is,” I repeated, “then we go home.”

One drink turned into several, but Xavier and I both stayed on soft drinks. We knew what was on the cards when we got home and were quiet, glancing at each other across the table. I was dying to say fuck it and take him home right there and then, but he needed to bond a little with his friends. I watched him chatting with one of them, much like I’d been doing for the past few months and was still blown away by how good-looking he was. I wondered what he saw in me.
