“Watch the hair, man. Took me ages to do this.” Jordan chuckled. “I’ve got a hot date later.”
“Yeah, with your right hand,” Dom joked. Jordan had had a girlfriend when he’d first had his accident, but she’d left him when things got too tough for her. That was one of the reasons Dom had moved in with him.
“What do you fancy for tea tonight? I got some chicken out to defrost earlier. Thought we could have some vegetables with it. There’s some ice cream in the freezer we can have later.”
“Sounds good. Do you want any help?” Dom would never ask him to help. He needed to rest. It sometimes took it out of him just walking from his bedroom.
“I’m good. It won’t take long to cook. You sit there with your feet up, you lazy bastard.” As brothers, they had an easy-going relationship, and although they joked with each other, they both knew that Dom didn’t mean a word of what he said.
He dropped on the sofa next to Jordan, tucking his feet beneath him, a pensive look on his face.
“What’s wrong with you? Did the lesson with the new student not go well?” Jordan turned sideways to look at him.
“No, it went fine. She was good. Only sixteen. Never had much in the way of lessons, but Mia was right. She’s got some raw talent there. She just needs to focus it in the right direction. She could be good, excellent even.” Dom went quiet again.
“So, what’s eating at you then? You’ve got a face like a smacked arse!”
Dom couldn’t deny it. He was in a foul mood, but he didn’t know what to do about it. He contemplated telling Jordan but realised he’d never spoken about Jacob. Still, he felt compelled to do so now.
“I met someone today while I was at the lesson.” He bit his lip nervously.
“Bloody hell, Dom. She’s a sixteen-year-old girl. What the fuck you playing at?”
Dom looked at him, perplexed.
“What? No, not the girl, her brother. Jesus, Jordan, I would never! Not with a girl and certainly not with someone underage. What do you take me for?”
“Sorry, but you only mentioned a girl. Nothing about anyone else being there.”
“Right, well. Abigail’s brother was there. His name’s Jacob. I knew him when I was at college. We had a ‘thing’ for about six months or so.” He thought about how to word the next bit, but Jordan interrupted him before he could say anymore.
“What do you mean, a thing?”
“What do you think I mean? We had a, not a relationship, but a mutually beneficial arrangement.”
“You mean friends with benefits,” Jordan said, his eyebrows raised.
“Yes, if you want to put it like that. We’d hook up at college, have lunch sometimes, occasionally get together after college. We never had proper sex, just you know…stuff.” Dom felt a blush creep across his cheeks.
“We’d meet a couple of times a week, maybe more some weeks, but this one night, I went round to his house. His parents were out, and we were alone except for Abigail. She was only eight at the time, so fast asleep.” Dom looked at the ceiling. “God, this is embarrassing.”
Jordan rubbed his arm. “Come on; it can’t be that bad. Can it?”
“Oh, yes. It was bad.” Dom chuckled. “We were, how can I put it, mid-blowjob. Actually, I was mid-orgasm when his parents walked in. I was fucking horrified. Jacob shot his load right after I did, but all I could hear was his father shouting abuse at both of us. I grabbed my stuff and ran from the house, half dressed.”
“Oh my God, Dom. You’re right. That is embarrassing.” Jordan valiantly tried to hold in a laugh.
“It’s not funny, Jordan. I was terrified of his father. I regretted running and leaving Jacob there to take the heat, but what was I to do? I was eighteen and had no idea what I was doing. If I’d have stayed, maybe things would have been different.”
“What do you mean? What happened?”
“I never saw him again. He left college, left the area, and that was it. I hadn’t seen him for eight years until today.”
“I bet it was great to see him then. Are you going to see him again? Carry on where you left off?” His brother seemed excited at the prospect. “You’ve put your life on hold for me for the last twelve months. It’s about time you went out and found yourself someone. I know you have Seb, but we both know he’s not the one for you.”
“Actually, I was a complete dick to him. Pretty much told him I wanted nothing to do with him except for teaching his sister. I feel like a complete arse, but he broke my heart, Jord. I was miserable for months after he left.”
“I remember. You moped around for ages, now that I think about it. That was because of him? Because of Jacob?”
