Jordan laughed and gave him the finger as Dom pretended to be shocked.

He took Jacob’s hand, and before leaving the apartment, he picked up a small holdall.

“Let’s go, tiger.” Dom winked and closed the door behind them.

They walked to the car, and Dom slung his bag in the back.

“So, where are we going for our special date?” He was bouncing with excitement.

“Well, I thought we could have a picnic by the river, then go back to my house to get ready for later. I’ve booked a table at a lovely little Italian restaurant, but a couple of drinks before, and then I thought—” He hesitated. They’d sort of discussed this, and they both knew where tonight was going to go, but he felt the need to clarify. “We could go back to my place again. I wasn’t sure what you wanted to do, but since you told your brother you were staying out, I’m assuming you’ll be staying over.”

Dom leaned over and squeezed his knee. “Sounds fantastic, and I can’t wait until later.”

Jacob smiled to himself and started the car, driving to a place a little further along the River Dee where he knew there’d be less people around. He handed the blanket to Dom and picked up the cool bag he’d filled with food.

They found a spot, far enough away from the crowds, and set out the blanket and food. He’d packed a small bottle of Prosecco, enough for a glass each and some water. He was driving, after all, and he didn’t want to end up passing out and missing the rest of the day either. He looked around and took in the beauty that surrounded them, the sound of the river and the grass moving in the warm breeze. It was nearly perfect, but then he looked at Dom, and the view changed to absolute perfection.

How he’d ever thought he could resist him again, he didn’t know. The more time he spent with him, the more he wanted him and the more confident he was in his realisation that he loved him and always had.

“You alright there, baby?” Dom’s question startled him out of his thoughts, and he realised he’d been staring.

“Yeah, taking in the scenery and realising how much I was enjoying it.” He reached across and took Dom’s hand in his, turning it over and kissing the palm. “And thinking how I’d like to see much more of it a little later.”

Dom looked at him with heat in his eyes. “It’s not so bad looking from where I am either, and I definitely want to see more.”

Jacob released his hand, a grin on his face, and he opened the bottle of fizz, pouring it into the plastic champagne flutes he’d brought with him. He handed one to Dom and raised it in a toast.

“To second chances and love. Past, present and future.” They both drank, and Jacob proceeded to unpack the food, talking about what he’d chosen; the cheese and olives, small pieces of chicken, bite-size foods that they could feed to each other, soft fruits, miniature desserts.

They talked and laughed, feeding and teasing one another as they’d done before. It was both sensual and romantic at the same time, and Jacob couldn’t remember a time when he’d felt so at ease, so comfortable within his own skin, and it was all down to the stunning man sitting in front of him.

“Mm, I won’t want to eat anything later after all that food.” Dom groaned, lying back on the blanket, his sunglasses covering his eyes. Jacob couldn’t resist leaning in for a kiss, Dom’s soft pouty lips still begging for them. As he stroked his face, it felt warm to the touch, and he remembered the sun cream he’d brought with him.

He didn’t want Dom’s skin to be marred by the sun, and with how fair it was, there was every chance in this heat. He rubbed the cream between his fingers, then caressed Dom’s skin as he worked the cream into his face. He looked at him closely, unable to believe how beautiful he was. Not handsome, that word wasn’t enough to describe the perfection lying before him; it would never be enough. Dom purred, a sound of pure contentment, and Jacob kissed him again, a mere whisper of a kiss, feeling Dom’s breath on his lips, tasting the food they’d eaten.

He brushed a stray strand of hair that was sticking to the sun cream from his face, noting how the colour shone in the sunlight and the fine sheen of sweat on his brow in the heat of the afternoon sun.

He’d been sent to tempt him, that was for sure, and he didn’t think this was ever going to be enough for Jacob. He needed and wanted it all from this guy. Tears pricked his eyes as he remembered how he’d almost lost him. He’d almost had to live his life without him.

Yes, he wanted everything, Dom’s mind, his soul and most importantly, his heart. He just hoped he was willing to give it.

Chapter Thirty-Seven

Dom

He’d woken that morning, nervous. Seb was going to Joe’s for the afternoon, and he couldn’t stop the anxiety that was creeping in where Joe was concerned. If he was stringing Seb along, he’d have his balls, no question.

This afternoon, though, he was seeing Jacob, and he couldn’t wait. After doing the morning session with Seb at the studio, he came home to get himself ready. Charlie was coming around to stay overnight with Jordan, so he knew he’d be fine. He’d have the whole weekend with Jacob.

When Jacob had arrived and texted to say he was waiting in the car, he’d had the sudden urge to invite him up to meet Jordan. He’d never felt the need to introduce anyone to him before, but it felt different this time. His feelings for Jacob were different, morphing into something more than just lust or attraction.

He’d need to speak to Jordan tomorrow to see what he thought of him, but honestly, it didn’t matter to him. Jacob had quickly got under his skin.

The afternoon they’d spent together by the river was idyllic, the setting, the food and most importantly, the company. They’d talked, laughed and shared lazy kisses as they’d relaxed on the blanket. Dom had never felt so content, so blissfully happy.

Afternoon had moved to evening, and it was time for them to change for their night out. As much as he wanted to take Jacob to bed now, he knew that they had a romantic night ahead, their first night out as more than just friends.

Their first stop was a small gay bar five minutes away, in a little back street where the shops, pubs and wine bars were on two levels. Dom found it hell walking on the cobbled roads in his boots and held onto Jacob for support. He seemed only too happy to oblige and gently placed his arm around his waist, making sure he didn’t fall. Dom leaned into his side, relishing the hard planes of his body, hidden beneath his shirt. He couldn’t wait to undress him later. He had plans for tonight, lots of plans.
