That last part was a partial lie, but at least it was the half-truth.
Rosco seemed satisfied enough with my answer. He dropped his hand from my face to my neck. "I'd like to take you somewhere special tonight."
Yes, please. "Okay."
"I want to introduce you to some…friends of mine."
The way he said friends made me wonder what he meant. "You’re not sure if they're your friends?"
He chuckled. "They're colleagues.Sometimes they're more like family. I can’t say that I considered them friends until recently."
"You're introducing me to Andro, your boss?" My breath hitched. I wasn’t ready for that. I couldn’t face Andro yet. Not when I still wasn’t sure what I was doing about all the things I’d learned about my dad. Rosco couldn’t know who I was. Not yet.
He shook his head. "No, we don't have the clearance for that. But there are others you could meet. You'll like them."
"And they're friends of yours?"
"Yeah, friends. You'll get along with their omegas."
The drive to the club was quick. Most places I went with Rosco were easy to get in and out of. He always had drivers, and he knew every doorman and bouncer wherever we went.
The music was loud and people were dancing on every available surface. There was even a group of bodies that had spilled off the dance floor. I held Rosco’s hand as the crowd parted around us.
It was quieter in the VIP area where Rosco was finally able to sit down and pull me onto his lap. Not long after we arrived, another alpha and omega walkedthrough the velvet rope barriers that kept the regular clubgoers out.
“Rosco! It’s been too long,” the alpha said with a grin.
Rosco reached out a hand but didn’t get up. “Trev.” He nodded at the omega at Trev’s side. “Rowan.”
“Hi!” The omega smiled at me and gave an awkward wave that somehow made me instantly like him. “I couldn’t believe it when I heard that Rosco had a boyfriend.” He sat next to me. “I must know everything about how you met. Does he take you on romantic dates? Hotel rooms don’t count. Don’t let him get away with that.”
Trev chuckled. “Rowan, darling, let the man breathe.”
Rowan pouted. “Let me have my fun. I never get to hang out with anyone unless they're approved by you, so don’t stand in my way while I make a new friend.” Rowan turned back to me. “They’re so overprotective, aren’t they?”
“Having your omega kidnapped by a madman will do that to you,” Trev said dryly.
“Lucky for us, Brutal Brutus and Van Dickhead are dead.” Rowan rolled his eyes and then took a swig of his drink.
Right then, it dawned on me who he was. I’d seen the name in the FBI file but didn’t put two and two together until now. Rowan was one of my father’s victims. He was Andro’s cousin, the man who put my father on Andro’s radar.
It was on the tip of my tongue to apologize.
“See, you’ve scared him,” Trev said.
“No. I’m not—no. It’s nice to meet you both. I’m glad to be here.” I cleared my throat and gathered some courage. “It’s great to see you, Rowan. Rosco’s told me a little bit about you, but I’m sure you know how quiet he is.”
“He is! Tell me he’s not like that in the bedroom.”
I laughed, and Rosco seemed to relax underneath me, as if me getting along with his friends was important to him. It was important to me. I wanted to be liked by them, too.

ROSCO
Many meetings that took place between me and Cord were important. I was there when his brother was in charge, and I was there when Cord decided he wasn’t going to listen to his power-hungry brother any longer. Those meetings had been tense, terrifying, and there were days when I wasn’t sure if we were going to survive it.
This meeting felt more terrifying than all of those.
