We met in the middle of the room, and neither of us hesitated. Rugar’s arms wrapped around my waist, and he pulled me into his chest as I lifted my face up to him. His mouth sealed over mine, and I melted against him, parting my lips to allow his tongue to slide into my mouth, dancing around mine.
“We could just stay here,” he offered, his kisses trailing over my jaw and down my neck.
“I want to seeThe Nutcracker,” I whispered.
“I want to see you naked,” he whispered back, nipping gently at my earlobe. “Today has been hell.”
“Rugar!” I chided. I stared at him, heat creeping up my chest and my face at his boldness.
“It’s not like it’s a secret anymore,” he said, lifting his shoulders in a shrug. “Katie, I’ve been crazy for you for years.”
“Then why didn’t you say anything until now?” I challenged. God, it was what I’d always wanted to hear from him. But he’d sure picked a weird time to just blurt it out like that.
“It’s complicated,” he answered.
“Kyle?” I growled.
“Yeah. He’s my best friend and he’s made his feelings clear. I thought your brother would murder me. He still might. I still would have ignored his bullshit, but I didn’t know if you liked me. Plus for a while, we were too young to explore anything.”
“And now?”
“Now, we’re both adults. I’m tired of being without you. We’ve missed out on so much together. I guess I just want to experience as much as possible as quickly as possible to make up for lost time.”
“That’s very romantic,” I admitted, relaxing at his words. “Far more than wanting to see me naked.”
“I won’t lie to you,” he said. “I absolutely want to see you naked.”
“You also absolutely want me to seeThe Nutcracker.”
“You’re right.”
I met his gaze again and grinned. “I want to see you naked, too.”
He took a step toward me again, but I put up a hand to stop his progress.
“But we’ll both regret it if we cancel our plans.”
“You’re right,” he agreed again. “I’m going to feed you. Then I’m taking you to see the ballet. And then we’re going to come back here—”
“And talk,” I interrupted.
“Can we talk while we’re naked?” he tried, though I could tell he was teasing. This moment had given us each a chance to cool down a notch.
I tilted my head and studied him. “Depends on where you’re taking me for dinner.”
“Chick-Fil-A,” he deadpanned.
“Oh, baby, I’m yours,” I teased, knowing he’d planned to make reservations when he left here this morning.
“Yes, you are.” He snagged me around the waist again and gave me a quick kiss then released me to help me put on my coat. I hooked my arm through his and followed him out the door. I was both excited and nervous about what the night would hold for us.
I had a feeling that no matter what happened, Rugar would always be way more than I’d bargained for.

Rugar
The candlelight seemed to reflect off Katie’s sparkling eyes while we finished dessert atMangiamo’s.In our own secluded booth, with high walls to give us the illusion of being alone in the low-lit restaurant, we held hands across the table and probably spent way too much time gazing at each other.
