“First, you always look radiant. Secondly, you’ll learn that I’m very good company. Lastly, I’m not taking no for an answer. Check this out, Hevyn. We either go to breakfast, or I go home with you. I’m down for either. It’s as simple as that,” I expressed, staring deeply into her pretty brown eyes.

“Breakfast it is,” Hevyn countered.

“That’s my butterfly.”

Hevyn unlocked her car, and I placed her things inside. Afterward, I took her to get some of the best breakfast in town.

Why couldn’tI say no to that man? I always used my voice and spoke up for myself. I set boundaries and never let anyone cross them.

Although I was shy, I never let people push me over. My brother Tevyn and big cousins always encouraged me to check anybody that tried to disrespect me, but when it came to Cache, I was putty around that man. I lost my train of thought and voice anytime I was in his presence.

His assertive and commanding nature made me swoon. I liked when a man was a leader but also knew when to be soft around a woman. Cache was only a man, yet just the sight of him left me speechless. His voice was deep, and his commands seemed to serenade me so much that I could barely speak attimes or stuttered like I couldn’t form any words. Cache’s soft yet piercing eyes, dark caramel complexion, and large body held a lot of the responsibility for why I wasn’t myself around him.

The guns strapped to his upper half added to his bad boy persona. If I had to admit the truth, it was definitely his commanding nature that not only stilled me in place but incited my clit to pulse like a vibrator. Cache made me hotter than fish fry grease at a church revival.

My God that man made me leak like a faucet. Cache’s mouth always said one thing, but his eyes revealed how he wanted to control my body. Shamefully, I wanted him to. I would most definitely allow him to take from my body what he wanted. My life was quiet and routine. I always did what I was told to do. There was nothing invigorating about my day. Cache could change that.

His deep tone invaded my thoughts. “Hevyn, explain to me what it is you do for a living. What is a night nurse?”

I chuckled, staring at the photo frames in his living room on the mantelpiece.

“Thank you for asking. I’m a pediatric travel nurse. I care for newborn babies overnight while the parents get some rest. If the mother has some medical issues after childbirth, then I’m paid to assist with sanitary pad changing, cleaning stitches, or helping mamas with post C-section care. It’s an added service to my business. My business is called The Traveling Baby,” I expressed.

“Damn! That's what’s up. I see I bagged me a boss.”

He chuckled and I joined him. Cache had a slight sense of humor. I liked it. He wasn’t as big and scary as my cousin Rusha thought.

“I’m kidding, but it’s amazing what you do for those mothers. I wouldn’t have ever thought that would be a thing, but now that I think about it, I get it. I can see why your services are needed. You mentioned that you stay overnight. You’re comfortable with staying with strangers? Do you feel safe? Do you enjoy what you do?”

“I love what I do. It brings me joy helping a mother no matter if she’s a first-time mom or a vet. Plus, I get to be able to look back and say I was one of the first people that provided emotional and physical support for that baby. In response to your question, I do feel safe, and I’m comfortable. If I get to a point where that changes, then I’ll drop that client. No amount of money is worth my sanity or safety.”

“I respect that completely.”

“Do you work or do anything else outside of what you do with Tread?”

“Yeah, I do!” Cache said loudly from the kitchen. “I own a moving truck business and an import and export company. They’re both small businesses but fruitful and lucrative.”

“Wow! That’s really interesting. What kinds of supplies do you send and receive?”

“Your everyday basics like food, hygiene products, household products, appliances, and more.”

“Do you enjoy what you do?” I questioned.

“Absolutely. It helps me escape and keep me grounded after the work I do with Tread.”

I grinned to myself. Cache was a better man than I expected.

“That was a solid response. I like it.”

He was established and stable. I totally misjudged him. Cache barging his way into my life was the most interesting event I’d experienced in years. No man had ever looked at me the way he did. I could tell those guys only wanted sex. Cache wanted something more. He wanted to not only be with me but own every inch of me. The question I faced now was would I let him?

From his demanding invitation to breakfast, I was under the impression we would eat out. Imagine my surprise when I pulled into the private parking garage of the loft he stayed in. While he cooked, I toured the main level of his home. Cache was in his kitchen making us an old-fashioned breakfast.

The smell of the savory and sweet breakfast foods married together and filled my nose. It was a wonderful fragrance that permeated the air. He also had a fire ’90s R&B playlist going. I felt like a real lucky girl at the moment. My eyes scanned over his home décor.

Cache had taste. The main level had an open layout in the color scheme of red, black, and white that decorated the downstairs area and his bedroom. Cache’s kitchen and living room were connected. The kitchen held state-of-the-art stainless steel appliances, black cabinets, and a nice sized kitchen island. Accessories like oven mittens, dish towels, and his cookware were red and white. Everything had a place. He was very clean and organized.

My eyes briefly trailed over his ruggedly handsome features. Cache was so damn fine. He looked up and flashed me a wicked smirk. I blushed and turned away. Cache had caught me red handed ogling him again. My eyes trailed over the huge black sectional that filled his living room. I smirked. I imagined we would spend days and nights snuggled on there while we watched his large smart TV mounted to the wall.
