Pria shrugged.“I got what I needed.I am realizing that I need to insist on that.If I don’t get what I need, I just walk away.”She chuckled.“And if someone wants to play with me, they will have to pay.”
Riro stared.“What?”
Cabree didn’t say anything, but Denog smiled.“She’s going to sell her virginity on the BDC to anyone who isn’t Sethir or Hyreno and who meets compatibility.”
Pria shrugged.“That’s a summation.Accurate though.”
Riro was staring at her.“Pria, we need to talk.”
Pria looked at him.“Why?”
“I made a mistake.”
“Oh.Yes.Well, no.You made a choice.You were bored, you heard another couple having sex, you played, and when you had something better to do, you left.”
His eyes went wide.“That’s not—it wasn’t like that.”
“All I know is that the first time I let someone touch me, they got bored and left.Do you know what that did to my sense of self?That puts contact with me in the pity or nothing better to do category.”
She continued eating and then looked at him.“The next time I am with a male, I want his attention fully on me with an end set to our time so that I know when things are over.”She smiled.“No dismissals.”
She felt a twinge in her side and looked down to see a drop of blood visible.She ate the contents of her leaf and looked down again as the wound was getting larger.
“Master Roil, is there a restroom nearby?And a med kit?”She looked at him calmly.
He was pouting but nodded.“Down the hall and to the left.”
She got up, and blood began to drip on the matting.“I will clean that up later.”
Cabree stared.“Oh my god, Pria.”
Pria swayed and shrugged.“I must have busted my stitches.”
Hands grabbed her carefully, and Master Roil lifted her off her feet and set her on the floor.He tore the dress around the wound and muttered, “Fuck, Pria.”
She looked, and her stitches had let go.“Dang.”
“So, it went...”He rolled her to her side.“Straight fucking through.This needs surgery.”
“So, city on the other side of the island?”
“We have an excellent medic here.”He left her alone.
She had a full belly, she wasn’t in danger of drowning, and the world felt fluffy.Cabree stroked her cheek.“Why didn’t you say something?”
“I was hungry.That was important.”She chuckled.“Did you know you are ovulating right now?I bet Denog did.”
Cabree blinked.“How could you tell?”
“I know where your heart is.I know where heat centres are.I know where ovaries are, and yours just went off.So, since sperm can stay alive for five days, congratulations.”She chuckled.Bleeding to death was funny.“Seriously, you will make an excellent mom.”
Riro came back in with a dark-haired man who cursed and took a look at her.He knelt at her side, slapped some coagulation patches on her and said, “Bring her to the station.The lighting here sucks.”
Riro carefully lifted her and said, “You have lost a lot of blood.”
She sing-songed, “I know.There was a conga line of sharks following me.I was tired, and then I got hungry.”
