scary even. Everyone seemed to be accepting of it, which seems natural, as we’d been waiting ages for this very occurrence. As for me, I was equally as unsettled as the earth was. It didn’t sound like your average storm out there. This was different.

On the other hand, it was nice to see the turnout from the entire city. Many more people showed up than I expected, but most were wearingmydad’s pins. It was safe to say that we were in their good graces. Though I was going to be moping around the majority of the night, I could at least let that linger at the back of my mind. Instead of what Iwantto be thinking about. It’s also better than watching Nick chase Darcy around all night and make a fool of himself. I admit, itisentertaining.

Especially knowing he just threw all of his pride out of the window for Paisley the other day.

I shiver at the thought still. He deserves karma from which nobody can come back. He just might be more sinister than Darcy, which is pretty hard to live up to. They are nothing shy of a match made in heaven. They somehow make dating look like a real-life soap opera, fucking anybody that comes into their path and going back for seconds if they can get a chance. I didn’t know some people could easily treat others like a continental breakfast.

If Paisley were here, she’d say something like, “Is Darcydressed for a lap dance or a congregation?” picking fun at Darcy and her wardrobe choices, which I’m missing. Her witty responses and sarcastic takes on things remind me that some people are still humorous. She’s never remorseful of it either.

She would’ve gotten a kick out of seeing the redheaded demon in the skimpy aqua blue pencil dress that she insistently was 249

flaunting at every male in her sight.

Ironically, as I was observing her ways, I was also her next victim, and she was making her way right over to me, swaying her hips with eyes as dark as black holes. Her mannerisms scream vengeance, as fine as she might be, but she’s frightening at the same time. She’s never coming around to do anything good. In the same way, you’ll never benefit from anything she has to offer. She will try anyway to find you alone so she can sweet talk you into some bullshit.

“Hey, I see you found the champagne fountain, courtesy of my dad.” she begins blabbing the minute she steps foot in front of me.

“Uh, yeah,” I glance down at my glass before I look at her,

“It’s something.”

“Hereallywent all out. I see your dad brought raffles forboats.” she sizes me up, placing her dainty hands on her hips.

“Yep. He sells them so…” I purse my lips, slowly nodding, sipping my drink eagerly.

“I bet Paisley isprettyimpressed by used boats.” she snickers, examining her manicure briefly.

“What do you have against her, Darcy?” I run my sentence into hers.

She remains silent, staring me up and down again before talking.

“Nothing. I think that she dates guys that are out of her league. And she’sallthat Nick will ever talk about. I find it annoying.”

And there it was. Jealousy.

“So? Find someone who doesn’t. He’s a lowlife.”

“He wasn’t a lowlife when I met him.”

The atmosphere grew tense after that statement. I’m also 250

not sure why she felt this is necessary information for me to know. Suddenly, we’re getting personal, and she’s the last person on my list to have slumber party confessions with.

“Sorry to hear that.” I awkwardly manage to finish my drink, then try to speak again, being cut off.

“Why do you like her?” she demands.

Why does she care?

“For a lot of reasons. For one, she’s a down girl. She’s loyal.

And it’s not a secret, but she’s pretty damn good on the eyes.”
