“Grace, honey. I think it’s time we talked.”

“Are you mad at me?” I asked and felt my chin tremble.

Rhys and Mariella had saved me all those years ago and if I’d somehow done something to upset them. I wanted to fix it.

“Why would I be mad at you? You’ve done nothing wrong.” I shrugged and went to stand when Rhys placed his hand on my shoulder, encouraging me to stay seated. He squatted in front of me and took my hands into his. “I need you to do me a favor. Can you do that?”

“Of course. What’s the favor?” I asked, and his gaze glanced over my shoulder before returning to mine.

“I need you to trust me the same way you did when you came here all those years ago. I need you to know I’d kill anyone who tried to hurt you. Do you believe that?”

“Yes.”

“Then let that trust be at the front of your mind, okay?” he asked, and I nodded, biting into my lip with worry.

A door opening behind me made me want to turn, and Rhys kept his hands in mine and whispered, “Trust.”

Footsteps sounded behind me, and I kept my eyes locked on Rhys as whoever it was entered the room from the rear. As they approached, I could hear someone growl, and chills erupted across my body as I waited for them to walk closer. As the footsteps ceased, I closed my eyes briefly, and when I opened them, Dalton was standing behind Rhys with his arms crossed over his chest and a glare directed at him.

His blue eyes lifted from Rhys’s hold on me, and when I met his gaze, I felt the tears building. He smiled at me and spoke softly, “Hey, baby. I’ve been so worried about you.”

“What . . . how did you find me?”

Rhys stood from in front of me and mouthed ‘trust’ as he walked around the desk.

Chapter 23

Skid

The entire flight toAtlanta, my knee bounced with nervous energy. Devlin had a charted plane waiting at the airport and within an hour and a half of him locating Grace, we were in the air. The flight was less than two hours, and the only thing he would explain about where Grace was is to say, “She’s safe with a friend, and he’ll help make everything right.”

James had a hard glare in his eyes as he worked on his computer, and when I asked what was bothering him, he shook his head and said nothing. I was getting pissed and I sent a text to Gunner.

Me:I’m in the air to get Grace.

Gunner:Do you need us to provide backup? I can have six brothers on the road in fifteen minutes and they can be there in less than four hours.
