“That man loves you. If you can’t, he’ll give you the time you need,” Lilly countered, and I looked at her with watery eyes.

“I really want to,” I replied, and both women smiled.

“Why don’t you call your babysitter and have her drop Jacob off here. He can stay with me tonight during the party, and that way, you don’t have to rush home tonight,” Piper suggested with a wink, and I nodded.

After sending a text to the sitter, I waited in the front of the quiet clubhouse while she drove over with Jacob. My nerves were all over the place, thinking about my potential first time with Kade. He was slow with me, and multiple times, he went down on me, bringing me pleasure unlike anything I’d ever experienced. Prior to my attack, I hadn’t had a boyfriend, and after, I was too busy with my brothers to bother with dating. The normal sexual urges were always absent, and my time with Kade had ignited a thirst deep inside that only he could quench.

Jacob was happy to be at the clubhouse and he hugged me quickly before running off with Bear fast on his heels. The two of them were thick as thieves, and to see my little brother so happy all the time was reward enough for all the years of hard work and struggle. Piper called him into the clubhouse, and when he reappeared, he was eating an orange popsicle that was dripping down his little hand.

I laughed as he offered Bear some of his cold treat, and the dog licked Jacob’s face in delight. The sound of motorcycles filled the air from the approaching group of Death Hounds and butterflies filled my stomach with anticipation. Whatever happened tonight, I was going to take the final step to make Gunner mine. Before someone else caught his eye and he realized how broken I really was.

The large gate opened, and the motorcycles turned off the road and roared into the compound. They parked them side by side along the front of the clubhouse, and the air grew quiet as one by one they turned the bikes off. I waited next to Piper and Lilly for the men to dismount their machines, and when Kade took his helmet off and shook his blond hair free, I felt tingles building deep inside.

Smokey and Bullet walked up, and each grabbed their women before pulling them into a bruising kiss. I giggled as the women swooned over their men and waited as Kade approached. His eyes were filled with need as he looked me up and down, and I fought the urge to fidget under his watchful gaze. I was wearing a pair of shorts and a black tank top that showed off some cleavage without making me feel half-naked.

I licked my lips as he walked in front of me, and when he ran a finger under the strap of my shirt, I shivered under his touch.

“You look fucking hot, baby,” he purred.

I stepped closer and rested my hands against his toned chest, feeling his heart beat under my palms as I leaned up on my tiptoes. He leaned over, and I kissed him, hoping to show the level of need I had for him. He gripped the back of my hair into his fist and backed me up until my back was pressed against the side of the building and his body was surrounding me.

I groaned as he pressed his hard length against my stomach, and he pulled back from the kiss. Resting his forehead against mine, he whispered, “I didn’t mean to get carried away.”

“I want you to get carried away,” I admitted and looked deeply into his piercing eyes.

He stared at me and a sly smile broke out on his face. Stepping back, he adjusted himself and linked his hand with mine. We walked around the clubhouse and right into Jacob and Bear. Kade looked at me with confusion, and I explained.

“He’s going to stay with Piper tonight, so I gave the babysitter the night off.”

“So that means you don’t have to leave early?” he asked with a sultry whisper.

“That means I’m yours tonight,” I admitted, and he kissed under my ear with a groan.

“Can tonight start now?” he asked, and I chuckled.

“Tonight starts after dinner.” I wiggled my eyebrows, and he shook his head with laughter.

For the next few hours, everyone helped set up for the party. Large tents were erected to cover the picnic tables, the grills were fired up to start cooking the metric ton of meat the club would consume tonight, the stage was constructed for the club band to play, and shortly after six, the compound became a beehive of brothers, prospects, hangers-on, club sluts, and the women who gravitated to the MC.

I helped get the sides set up as the meat from the grill was placed on the long tables. Quickly before the brothers descended on the food, I made Jacob and myself a plate and found us a table to sit down at. He was a good kid who got a rough break being born to our worthless mother, and I’m grateful every day I was able to be the parent to him and Dalton that she couldn’t be.

I missed Dalton and I discreetly looked around the yard, hoping to catch a glimpse of him. For the last year, he spent most of his time working with Devlin Callahan, doing whatever it was he did for him. His demeanor had matured from the hotheaded teenager I used to bump heads with to someone who seemed laser-focused. When I do see him, he always has a backpack with a laptop inside.

Thinking back to the last time I saw him at home for Sunday lunch, I worried he was getting involved in illegal activities, but he promised me that while what he was doing wasn’t illegal, it wasn’t legal either. Something about monitoring records, and cleaning up the Flats. He was learning valuable skills working for Mr. Callahan, and Smokey reassured me it was a good thing.

It was hard not to worry, but my brother wasn’t a kid anymore, and I needed to remember that. He was a patched member of the Death Hounds, not the little boy I hid the truth from to ensure his innocence.

A hand on my shoulder made me jump, and I looked to see Kade standing behind me with a smile on his face and a beer in his hand. He sat down with his back against the table and took a swig from his beer before he spoke.

“How are you doing, darlin’?”

I shrugged and turned to face him. “I’m good. Just getting Jacob fed so I can get him to Piper.”

He leaned over and whispered, “Are you sure? I don’t want you to feel rushed.”

I kissed him softly and whispered, “I’m sure.”

“Gunner,” someone yelled, and he snapped his head in their direction. With a chin lift, he explained, “I’ve got some club business to take care of over at the range. I’ll be gone for a few hours. Are you going to stay at the party, or are you going back to my cabin?”
