Chapter 15

Aubrey

Icaught a nap on thecouch for an hour or so and was exhausted when the sun finally broke through the dark night sky. Deciding work might help me get my mind off things I couldn’t change, I started on some security issues with one of the websites I manage. Getting lost in the coding and installation of the necessary firewalls, I didn’t realize the time until my phone rang.

Looking at the display, I saw it was Hayden and my heart grew lighter. He helped to chase the demons away, and I tried not to appear too eager when I answered.

“Hey.”

“Good morning, beautiful. Did you sleep well?” he asked, his voice scratchy from sleep.

“Yeah. I woke up early to get some more of this project done before we leave for Nashville tomorrow.”

“Do you want me to come over for breakfast so you can finish, or can you take a break and come here?” he asked, and I checked where I was on the project.

“Let me finish one last thing and I’ll come over. I could use a break and I’m already ahead for next week,” I replied and stretched in my chair, trying to work the kinks out of my back and neck.

“I’ll leave the front door unlocked. I’m going to take a shower while you’re on the way. Drive safe.”

With those words, we disconnected and I set the program to run while I took a quick shower. I had clothes at Hayden’s from the last few months of spending time with him, so I didn’t worry about needing anything while I was there. Throwing on a pair of blue jeans and a soft t-shirt, I pulled on my boots and coat before setting the alarm and locking the house up.

The drive over to Hayden’s was quick, and I was eager to see him. Spending Thanksgiving without him while he was subjected to his miserable family made me wish I could have been there to shelter him from whatever they threw at him, but I wasn’t equipped to handle people with the kind of money his family has. I know nothing about his mother and her new family, and from what he explains, I’ll probably never meet them. If they are as horrible as he says they are, I’m fine with that.

I pulled up and parked to the side of the garage. Grabbing my laptop bag from the front seat, I climbed the stairs and let myself in the front door. I could hear a noise coming from upstairs. Removing my coat and boots, I placed my bag and keys on the table by the front door before going to investigate. Walking up the stairs, I recognized a popular song playing on the radio and I chuckled to myself as I lowered the volume.

I felt a warm body press against my ass as a pair of hands gripped my hips. A hard length pressed against my ass as he ground his pelvis against me. I went to stand, and he gripped onto the back of my hair, wrenching me upright as his muscular arm snaked around my waist, pulling me closer to him. His scent encapsulated me and calm overtook me.

Hayden.

He nipped at my shoulder, his kisses moving up my neck, and I moaned.

“Fuck, you smell good. Were you a good girl yesterday?”

I nodded, and he tilted my head before slamming his mouth to mine. His tongue tangled with mine as I felt his hand slid under my shirt. He controlled my movements with his grip on me and I felt cherished in his arms. He flexed his hips against me, forcing a moan from my lips.

Breaking the embrace, turned me in his arms and picked me up before tossing me onto the bed. Standing above me, his eyes the color of whiskey and his blond hair in disarray. He trimmed his beard to a sexy scruff, and I could see his desire for me as I reached up to him. He settled one knee on the bed, and I pushed back as he stalked over me like a predator cornering his prey.

His muscular body pressed into mine and he placed his forehead against mine. “I missed you so much.”

I stroked his cheek and replied, “I’ve missed you too.”

Reverently, he helped me remove my shirt and bra as he placed delicate kisses against my heated skin. I wanted him to be a little rough, but the softness of his kisses was breaking the last lock around my guarded heart. Kissing across my chest, he pulled one pebbled nipple into his mouth as he plucked at the other. My back arched and I felt him smile against my skin as I gripped into his blond hair. His eyes locked with mine as he slowly worked down my stomach.

Freeing the button on my pants, he slid the denim down and kissed up from my ankle to my needy core. I watched as he inhaled deeply between my legs and his eyes darkened as he licked my damp panties.

“Fuck,” I moaned, needing more.

Just as he grasped the side of my panties to pull them down, a loud pounding on the door sounded into the room. Hayden looked confused and glanced over his shoulder as the knocking sounded again, followed by muffled voices.

“Damn it. I’ll be right back. Don’t go anywhere.”

With a quick kiss on my lips, he tossed a thin blanket over me and went to see who was interrupting us. I could hear voices coming from the living room and I slid from the bed, wrapping the blanket around me. Whoever was downstairs was loud and rowdy, and from the commotion bleeding upstairs, there were at least two, if not more, men downstairs. I didn’t recognize the voices, so I opened the door, peeking through the crack and over the banister into the living room.

Hayden’s back was to me and I couldn’t tell who was standing in the kitchen. Hayden took a beer from whoever it was, and I could see the tension in his back. Fully understanding that sexy time was over, I pulled my clothes back on. Just as I was about to walk downstairs, something deep inside caused me to freeze in place.
