Chapter 14
James
“She knows were on theway and we have to hurry. That fucker has some kind of movie set up in the study and seemed excited when Amaya arrived. It’s got Jacob freaked out and they have sent him out of the room. Apparently, the lawyer took off about twenty minutes ago, saying he didn’t want to watch whatever it was again.”
“Find him and take him to the warehouse. Ten thousand to whoever gets to him first.” Devlin bellowed and I turned to him, hoping my expression relayed my appreciation.
Whatever Victor had planned, we had to get inside before Amaya was hurt, physically or psychologically. He had warped her to believe she deserved what she did to support her sister. Knowing that fucker Greg had someone hurt Natalia, effectively trapping Amaya in the deal, had me wanting to know the actual reason Victor targeted the sisters. There was no connection we had ever been able to establish, so it made no sense.
“Are you ready for this?” Devlin asked as we approached the rear entrance of the estate.
We had parked a quarter of a mile away from the house with only a thick grove of woods separating me from Amaya. If we pulled up to the front, we risked them hurting Amaya before I could get her to safety. We climbed from the truck and Devlin and I began checking our usual weapons.
Skid, Devlin, and I were strapped heavy with two Glock nine millimeters and a sharp hunting knife that would cut through bone. Verifying our coordinates, the three of us started walking through the trees. There was one DeathHound with the truck and another four set up down the road from the estate. They would come in when Skid gave them the signal and stop anyone who tried to run.
The trees scratched at our faces as we moved slowly through the undergrowth. Devlin spoke low as we trekked closer and closer to the house. “What’s the reason behind all this? Why try to destroy two women? It doesn’t make any sense.”
“When we find Victor, I’ll be sure to beat the answer out of him. My only focus right now is getting Amaya away from him and those depraved assholes he calls friends.”
“There was something I found but I don’t know if its connected.” I looked at Devlin and raised my eyes as the back of the sizeable house came into view through the trees.
He gripped my arm and we stopped walking. I turned to him and he explained. “There were three names you gave us from the last party. They all had one thing in common compared to the others, but I still don’t see where Amaya fits into it all.”
“What is it?” I was getting tired of the fucking secrets my brothers were keeping from me. I felt like they didn’t trust me or Amaya.
“They were all mentioned in the incident report that was taken the night Victor’s father died. Even though they were able to bury the official report, the officer who responded took everyone’s name, including their lawyer who was there when the cops arrived.”
I shook my head and we came up to the edge of the trees. Skid typed into his phone and we waited for his reply. My heart was racing, and the monster had broken his chain, needing to save her. A vibration from Skid had us turning to look at him. His eyes grew wide and his nostrils flared as he gripped his phone tightly.
“Tell me.” I ordered.
“The movie... god damn man. It’s a snuff film. Of her sister.”
That was the last fucking straw. Amaya would not be forced to watch her sister be violated. Not on the day Natalia died. Not ever.
We took off in a flat run through the backyard and ran up the side steps leading to the kitchen. Jacob opened the door and he had tears in his eyes as he pointed through a doorway and raised four fingers. We could hear raucous laughter coming from the room and I withdrew my gun from the holster.
“Blade is waiting at the truck. Find him and wait for us. You’ve done enough, Jacob.” Devlin explained and patted him on the shoulder.
