I bring her right to the edge and pause again, not giving her what she wants. She swears under her breath before leveling me with an unimpressed look in the mirror.

My lips quirk, and I raise an eyebrow at her. “You gonna be a good girl for me and tell me what I need to hear?”

“I can’t,” she whines, her face lined with desperation from her four denied orgasms.

“You can, Izzy. I know you can, and I’ll make you feel so good when you give me what I want,” I coax.

Instead of replying, she shakes her head and wordlessly pleads with me to make her come. I don’t give in. I ruthlessly bring her to the edge over and over and over until tears stream down her cheeks. She looks breathtakingly beautiful, even when she’s glistening with sweat and crying.

“Please, Luca. I need…” She trails off, her breath hitching as more tears leak out.

She can’t seem to figure out how to word what she wants to say and gives up trying to speak at all. Instead, she goes limp in my arms and lets her head fall forward. My hands on her hips are the only thing keeping her upright.

“Okay, wildcat, okay,” I soothe as I slow my thrusts and eventually still.

As much as I want her to make me that promise, I can tell she’s had all she can handle right now. There’s probably something fucked up about me that I don’t mind tears running down her face when I have my dick shoved down her throat, but I don’t want to see her crying right now.

I rub one hand up and down her back as she shudders in my arms, trying to calm her.

After a moment, she lifts her head to meet my gaze in the mirror. “Why’d you stop?” she asks breathlessly.

“Because I’m not going to make you come until you make me that promise. I can tell you’ve had enough, so I’ll stop. For now.” I fully intend to keep providing her incentive to give in to me, just not right this moment.

Her nose crinkles in confusion. “You’re not going to finish?”

I huff a laugh. “No. The first time I finish in you, I’m damn well going to make sure you’ve come so many times you can’t even remember your name.”

She snorts. “You sure think highly of yourself, wolf boy.”

I chuckle. “I think I’ve more than proven I can follow through.”

With a grin, she looks up at me without her normal sky-high walls up. Her smile drops, and she averts her gaze before mumbling, “Will you hold me for a little?”

“Of course, Izzy. I’ll always take care of you. I hope you know that.” Wrapping an arm around her middle, I pick her up and hold her to me, all without pulling out. Even though I’m not able to give us what we both need right now, I can’t bring myself to separate from her.

Walking us over to the chaise, I manage to get us settled with me spooning her much smaller form while staying inside her. I position us so that my back is to the door in case someone happened to walk in on us. No one else besides her mates gets tosee Izzy like this. It’d be inconvenient to have to explain to Hades why I killed one of his staff, so I’d rather avoid it.

We lay in comfortable silence for a while until Izzy’s quiet words break it. “I don’t want to worry you. I just… can’t lose any of you.”

Hearing the pain in her voice kills me, and I’d give anything to take it from her. “I know you don’t want to, wildcat. I just need you to understand that none of us can lose you, either, and we came damn close yesterday.”

“I’m sorry,” she whispers, so quietly I can barely hear her. “I’ll do everything I can to not put you in that position again. I can’t make you the promise you want, but I can swear to do everything in my power to make sure we all make it through this alive.”

I guess that’ll have to be enough for now because I don’t think either of us is going to budge at this moment. “I’ll take it.” I press a gentle kiss to the top of her head and hold her to me, enjoying the feel of her body against mine. “I love you, wildcat. So damn much,” I rasp, before realizing that her breaths have evened out and she’s fallen into an exhausted sleep.

CHAPTER 8

IZZY

“Kansas, really?” I ask in disbelief as the compass comes to a stop in the middle of flyover country. When the necklace Angerona gave me landed on the states, we pulled out a more detailed map to get a better idea of where Lua is. “What is she doing in bumfuck nowhere? Conspiring with the cows and cornfields?”

We just returned to our realm less than an hour ago. We spent an additional three days inInfernusrecuperating until I convinced my mates I was at full strength. Apparently, we were inInfernusfor a total of five days, so Archer and I were out for two of those.

My heart squeezes painfully in my chest anytime I think about what happened to Archer, but I’m at the point where I mostly just feel all-consuming anger toward Lua. I’m determined to find some way to kill her once and for all. Over my dead body will she touch anyone I care about ever again.

Levi opened a rift directly to the Nightshade dining room. As soon as we arrived, Cain left to go find us maps. I already had the necklace from Angerona on me, so we got to work as soon as we could.

A little guilt snakes through me that I didn’t immediately contact my family after disappearing for five days without a word. But I do my best to ignore it because we have more pressing problems. Once we check out this lead on Lua, I’ll focus on my family.
