“Oh, that’s a guarantee. You know, Ronnie, you are unlike any woman I’ve ever been with.”

“Is that good or bad?” She asks.

“It’s very, very good. You seem to live your life in a very unique way.”

“I don't know that I would call it unique. It’s just that I think life is too short not to be having fun.”

“I think that’s a hell of a way to think of things.”

I really do. With a kid, I can’t always choose to focus on only thefunthings in life. But on the weekends, I get my fair share of fun with Ronnie. In my book, that’s as good as it gets.

She asks, “Do you want to watch a movie or something?”

“Sure. A movie sounds great.”

“What do you want to watch?” She asks.

“Anything you want. You pick.”

“That’s easy,” she says. “The Mummy.”

I laugh. “Interesting choice. Not sure that I’ve ever seen it.”

Her eyes go wide. “What? Oh, buckle up, buttercup. You’re in for a wild ride. Brendon Fraser is a national treasure.”

She keeps talking as she starts the movie. As I listen to her, I realize how happy being around her makes me.

It’s the happiest I’ve been in a long time—even if it’s all casual. Ronnie is so different and fun.

There’s this little voice in my head, though, that wonders how long it is before she’s moving onto the nextfunthing.

“What did you think?” I ask Drew after the movie is over. “Keep in mind that if you say you hated it, I will ask you respectfully, yet forcefully, to leave.”

He laughs. “Well, it’s a good thing that I liked it then, huh?”

“I knew I liked you.” I point my finger at him. “Pretty sure Brendon Fraser was my first celebrity crush.”

“I get it. He’s a good-looking dude.”

“You’re not so bad yourself.”

I get up to put the rest of the Chinese food in the fridge as he asks, “Would you say this is your favorite movie?”

“Probably. It’s definitely my comfort movie. What’s your favorite?”

He thinks for a minute. “I don’t know that I have one. I don’t always have a lot of time to watch them.”

A small part of me wonders what he’s so busy with. But I don’t need to know. It’s none of my business.

Instead, I say, “I don’t always have a ton of time either. My brother, Dylan, is a huge cinephile, so he was always having me watch stuff with him. Now, I mainly just watch The Mummy over and over. And baking shows. That’s about it.”

“I turn on nature documentaries to fall asleep to.”
