Epilogue

Ronnie

Crazy but Amazing

“Baby!” Drew calls as he walks through my front door. “You ready for dinner?”

Looking at Arlo, he adds, “You are a terrible guard dog, do you know that?”

He barely gets the last word out before he looks around my living room and kitchen in pure shock. “Ronnie, baby, where did all of this stuff come from?” His eyes go wide at all the toys.“Dear God, please tell me that you didn’t get all of this for Colton for Christmas.”

“No,” I say with an eye roll. I point to a large pile in the corner. “That is Colton’s Christmas.”

“That’s still a lot,” he says.

“He’s fun to shop for! Leave me alone.”

“Back to my first question. What is all of this other stuff?”

“Do you remember how I went to the store and picked out one of those angel tree things?”

“Where you buy gifts for a family that may be struggling around the holidays? Yes, I remember you telling me you went the other day and did one.”

I wiggle my nose back and forth as I say, “Well, I had so much fun doing that one that I decided to just go and finish all the rest of the ones on the tree.”

“You went and got the rest of the names on the tree?”

I nod.

“How many were left?”

I shrug. “I don’t know. Maybe twenty or so. I’m now separating everything, to make sure I’m not forgetting anything before I go and drop it off tomorrow.”

He pulls me close. “You’re amazing, do you know that? A little crazy, but amazing.”

“I’m aware of both of those facts.”

“Are you ready to go to dinner?”

“Oh, shit. Yeah, give me two minutes to change really quick.”

I run off into the bedroom before he can argue with me about it. It’s been about a month and a half since my big freak out, and I haven’t had any since. Well, I haven’t had anybigones. I’ve still had my moments, but true to my word, I have stayed, and we’ve worked it out.

Drew and I are taking things slow. We aren’t living together, and I don’t think we have any plans to for a while. Althoughwe have talked about maybe someday getting married, we are nowhere close to that either. Also, both of us have agreed that Colton is more than enough kid for us. Besides that, we will settle on spoiling my nieces.

I’ve only gone on one travel trip for work. It was just a few days to Greece. It paid a decent chunk of change, so I’m not in any hurry to do another.

As much as I hate to admit it, I missed my life here way too much to be constantly flying off somewhere new.

Who would have guessed?

Quickly, I change out of my jeans and t-shirt and throw on a cute dress.

When I reappear, Drew says, “I love the dress, but I feel like you’re going to freeze.”
