I guess I was fast even in my dreams. The further away from the light we went the more things took shape. We were back in that meadow/forest we’d first met in. She bounded down into the field and there were other wolves here this time. They all bowed as she walked by.
Of course they did. She was a legend. I faltered when I saw two of the wolves that were joining us. Tears filled my eyes. They ran over to me. I cried, “Ajax? Apollo?” My brother's wolves were here. They both confirmed it by nodding. Emotions overwhelmed me and I sobbed.
I hugged Apollo first. I whispered, “I’m so sorry you lost T.” He shook his head. I held him and said, “I never wanted him to go. I would’ve taken that bullet for him.” Apollo bumped his head into me. I sat back. It looked like he was trying to tell me something with his eyes, but I didn’t know what it was.
I turned to Ajax apprehensively. He tackled me to the ground and kissed my face. I snorted, “I thought you’d hate me like Jason does now.” Both wolves looked pained. The white wolf came over and joined them.
I asked, “Are my parents wolves here?” The white wolf shook her head saying no. I let my heart hurt for that, just for a second. I questioned, “Will Ajax being here hurt Jason? Jason’s not dead. His wolf shouldn’t be here.” The white wolf shook her head again saying no.
I sighed in relief, “Good. I missed them both so much.” I played with Ajax and Apollo. Tears were threatening to come, but I couldn’t let them in again right now. Not when I had this gift, to play with them like I used to. As I always should've been. Apollo had been such a big part of Tristan.
I asked the white wolf, “Can you bring T here? I miss him.” Clear as day in my head I heard someone answer, “Not now.” It was a whisper. I looked around before questioning, “Who said that? Not now... does that mean later?” I heard a laugh and turned towards it.
An ethereal glowing being was before me. Oh good. A goddess….and I was pretty sure I knew which one too. I warned, “I’m not a fan of the goddesses. So, if you were looking for a worshipper you’ve come to the wrong place.” Apollo whined and it sounded like a warning.
I assured him, “I’ll be fine. That’s the nicest thing I’ve said… well, maybe not… no I actually think it’s the nicest thing I’ve said to a goddess in gosh… years.” The goddess smiled, “Ahh but I’m not yours.”
I snorted, “I don’t have one I claim. So, you couldn’t be mine. Selene is not my goddess. I wouldn’t claim her with a gun to my head.” Ajax and Apollo whined again. The goddess smiled and her wings extended. The wings told me I was right about who she was. Wings told you exactly what Supernatural you were dealing with once you saw them.
I rolled my eyes commenting, “You’re Charmeine then, since you have Angel wings. What are you doing here? Other than ruining my moment with my brother's wolves. Because you are. This is just…rude. I’m finally getting the little touch of normalcy I’ve craved for almost seven years. So… Why wouldn’t a goddess ruin it for me?” I swear … that the white wolf, Ajax and Apollo chuckled.
Charmeine smiled sweetly saying, “I do so like you.” I raised an eyebrow mockingly replying, “Goodie. Now I am complete.” Apollo snorted. I sighed, “Yes, I know…I still can’t lie…but I wasn’t lying! It was sarcasm…that’s different!” Both Apollo and Ajax seemed to snicker.
Charmeine bit her tongue before saying, “You will meet the Moon Goddess one day, you know. That’s a different discussion for another day. It was decided I would be the best to speak to you for now. We were certain her coming would be a bad idea.” Bad? BAD?!
I snorted, “You can tell Selene I’ll pass on meeting her. She most DEFINITELY doesn’t want to meet me. You… I can’t say I’ve met too many Angel bloods in the hell called The Ring or being sold off to Hunters….but I have met them.”
“I’d have preferred to meet Aesir…if I’m picking. He’s not allowing his children to have petty squabbles like you do…which is crazy….since you’re being really mean to one who is doing exactly what he’s meant to do.” Her eyes flashed over the mention of Lucifer and his family. I didn’t care because it was her fault so… it wasn’t like my words weren’t true.
Charmeine smiled, but it was clearly strained. She pouted, “But Aesir gets to have all the fun. Everyone likes him.” I told her, “He’s cares about his children, so of course people like him.” Charmeine sighed, “He did say he’d be the best choice. You’ll recognize him when you do meet him.”
I glared at her asking, “How would I do that?” I definitely didn’t meet him, but to be fair I recognized her…so…she might have a point. Charmeine replied, “I can’t tell you.” I nodded, “Naturally. Cryptic hints are a goddesses' wheelhouse.” She gasped.
I accused, “You play with your children’s lives as if we are meaningless toys to you all. Our misery means nothing to you. You still sit on your hands and do nothing. After claiming you care about your children while gods don’t oversee as much. They are preferable to a goddess. Just know that it’s more understandable for god’s to mess up because they don’t tout themselves as the ones who care.”
Charmeine said quietly, “I do not do nothing.” I shrugged, “That remains to be seen. Just because I haven’t freed many Angels, doesn’t mean there aren’t more in trouble….” Charmeine interrupted, “They have been taken, but not for long. I send my other Angels after them. We bring them home.”
I hummed, “Evangeline might disagree…surely you remember her…I read the reports of when Hetti Cambridge was rescued and Lucifer’s half-sister was found. So…” She gasped, “That was a different…” I cut her off this time, “Congratulations on knowing how to do your job to a degree. Allowing her to suffer is against your code…but it is better than what every other goddess allows.”
I snarked, “Would you care to tell the rest of the good for nothing, sits on their behind’s goddesses, how to do theirs?” Charmeine smirked, “I’m glad you can see the difference.” I replied, “It still makes you bad at your job…just not as bad. The bar is quite low…so I wouldn’t be too excited you surpassed them.”
Charmeine pouted, “The other goddesses don’t tend to listen to me or Aesir. He’s been warning Selene for years that you’d hate her. Actually, it might be decades by now. How old are you again?” I cocked my head,“Hate is a kind word for how I feel about Selene. As for my age, you’re a goddess.” She furrowed her brow in confusion.
I explained, “By that, I mean figure it out your dang self. Also, I sincerely hope I don’t have a Guardian Angel or you’re definitely useless…. other than protecting your children when they get taken by the Ring….minus a child who knew nothing about her ancestry. Which isn’t… nothing… but it’s the bare minimum.”
Charmeine smiled but there was a strain to it. I continued, “Selene turned her back on me long ago. Why would she care about me now?” Charmeine spoke after several moments, “I do not think you will take it the reason well. You’ll think it’s something that’s it’s not. Though in your defense, it will not look good on Selene’s end.”
I snorted, “It would be hard for Selene to sink lower in my head. I don’t need you to defend me.” Charmeine laughed, “Oh, but she will sink lower in your head.” The white wolf whined. I reached out to pet her fur.
I told the wolf, “I know you are an extension of the goddess. You’re better than her though. You’ve actually been there for me. You brought my brother’s wolves here to play. That’s more for me than Selene has ever done. I’ve even seen you twice. I’ve never met her, and if she is smart… she’ll keep it that way.”
Charmeine told me, “I’ve seen the things you do. You are very influential.” I snorted, “You came to tell me that? Yeah, I do the job of Goddesses. I stand for those that have been forgotten. Those in the shadows. I have a network that’s fighting against those packs in the shadows. I have members in every forgotten single pack. Several that I REALLY can’t wait to throw in people’s faces.” Charmeine laughed, “Alpha Ezra, you mean. You want to throw those in his pack in his face.”
The fact that she knew that made me think I did have a Guardian Angel. Screw them. I nodded, “He’s one of them. He’ll mess up. I won’t out my people until the right time, but he’s dumb. It’s something of a miracle he’s gotten away with everything this long.”
I paused then snorted, “No, it’s not really though, is it? He has divine intervention on his side. It’s the only explanation.” Charmeine told me, “That man’s time is coming. Now that you have your mate by your side, things get a little intense.”
I muttered sadly, “He’s not going to stay by my side, is he? He’s going to reject me.” The white wolf whimpered while Apollo and Ajax roared in anger.
