A voice called, “Step away from him, she wolf.” I grumbled, “It’s Melanie but ok…” I saw a woman throw a fireball at thebounty Hunter. I asked, “Did you get Angel powers too?” She tilted her head, “Yes, why did you help me?”
I grinned admitting, “It’s kind of what I do. I think you’ll like my friends. What’s your name?” She raised an eyebrow, “I’m not meeting your friends, but I’m Angelique.” I bartered, “How about one who also doesn’t like people? K would like you and I have a house around here she’s staying in for a little bit. No offense to your decrepit shack… but my house is nicer, and I’ll throw in a car… plus...”
She asked, “How do you have a house with a car? You’re like fifteen.” I replied, “I mean I am fifteen, not like fifteen, and I’m a billionaire so that’s how.” She gasped, “WHAT? Are you serious?”
I nodded, “So, would you like to meet K? She bought new furniture for the house and everything is VERY comfy. I doubt this place has a bed and K imported one for all the guest rooms. You could even pick a room. Then rotate through the safe houses if the bounty Hunters catch on. You could also join us.”
She asked, “Join you? Oh my god, are you the blue circle drawing people?” I huffed, “Why doesn’t anyone know our name? We are the Ring Resistance.” She chuckled, “I’m kind of off grid.” I nodded, “Right. That’s fair then.”
She laughed, “Alright, let’s go meet this K. I have always wanted a roomie, as they say.” I asked, “How do you know that?” She answered, “I log into my siblings accounts to watch television on this.” She held up a device. I grabbed it and stomped on it.
She yelled, “HEY!” I said, “That’s how they know where you are. I’m not saying your siblings did that but… someone found out they got it for you. I’ll get you a new one and set it up with an alias for your apps and television watching.”
She grinned asking, “Could you get me Netflix?” I snorted, “I can get you all of them.” She squealed, “AND A BED?” I didn’tlike her family at all. I nodded. She admitted, “I don’t know why I’m trusting you, but I feel like I can. Don’t make me regret that.” I promised, “I won’t.” I liked and trusted her too.
She and Kingsley hit it off like I thought they would. I went back to the diner and worked on my plan for what I’d do if Beta Jason didn’t let me come home when I shifted.
Dax sat down next to me. He faltered, “The Female Lead Warrior of our pack. What is this?” I explained, “If Beta Jason doesn’t let me come home, I’ll challenge for it here.” He frowned, “You don’t belong here while the pack is like this. You’re supposed to get home, and we all keep working. Addison and Si will end up with you.” That was the plan. I nodded, “I know I just need to cover all my bases.” He hummed and watched as I worked.
My sixteenth birthday was inching closer and closer, and I had to get the timing perfect. I wanted to have my serums ready to go when I went home. Currently, I was working on the serum for Fairies. I was using my beakers and conducting my experiments. I was close, I knew I was.
This combination was going to be the winner. I announced, “Test one-hundred and sixty-five. I am about to test the serum. I dropped a drop into a vial of Fairy blood that I’d dropped Iron into. I watched the reaction.
I screamed and pumped my fist into the air when the serum separated the iron from the blood then disappeared. I screamed, “I DID IT! I DID IT!” I looked around for someone to high five, but no one was here. Tears filled my eyes, and I sat on my workbench.
I whispered, “I did it, dad. Now, I can do ones for other Supernatural’s. It should be quite simple.” I wiped away my tears and looked at my serum. I grinned saying, “I really did it.” I should’ve had my family and Xander by my side when I did.
I was putting everything away when my friends came in. Addison declared, “It’s intervention time. You need to shower and wow. You look like a mad scientist with your dirty hair and…” Sierra nudged her in the side. Addison asked, “What? She does and she’s been crying. Oh no, it didn’t work.”
I grinned admitting, “I got the right combination. The Fairy Serum is ready.” Sierra asked, “Have you decided what to call it?” I wanted to name it Xander, but that was too obvious. I made it for him though, so it had to have him in the name that was just reasonable.
I told them, “I don’t want them to know it’s from me, so they’ll use it.” Addison snorted, “Unless they are stupid, which based on everything you’ve said, they aren’t, Alpha Eric would probably cut off his right arm for something like this. King Aiden definitely would. They wouldn’t care if it came from you.”
I shook my head saying, “I can’t take that risk. They might not believe us. I have the perfect way to deliver it to them.” Sierra waved, “We know how you plan to do that. We want to know what name you landed on. It’s got to be unique. Like its creator.” I blushed.
Paige said, “Girl, you made a revolutionary serum. You should be screaming from the rooftops. You should be celebrated by the whole supernatural community at large. Everyone should clamor to work with the brilliant Melanie McAlister.” I replied, “But they wouldn't.”
Paige sighed, “That’s just your fear talking. I know it’s hard to rise above it all with asshole relatives, but I think you should. This is amazing.” I couldn't do that. I said, “We had a lot ofgood times. We had all the love in the world.” My tears fell even though I tried to hold them back.
Sierra whispered, “Mel.” I cried, “I miss them all so much. I didn’t just lose my parents and T. I lost everyone and I miss them so much….but they hate me and it hurts all the time. There’s this constant ache and…” I faltered when they held me while I cried.
Eventually I shook it off. I apologized, “Sorry.” Paige said, “You are not the one who needs to be sorry.” Addison nodded, “Agreed.” I shrugged, “Anyway, I did pick a name.” Paige encouraged, “And it is…?” She trailed off intentionally.
I answered, “Laxenread.” Addison asked, “Laxen what? Is that Fealish? It doesn’t sound Latin.” I explained, “It’s neither. It’s an anagram for Alexander.” Sierra frowned, “They will figure that out.” I nodded, “And Fairies will assume it’s another Fairy. They love anagrams. Princess Luna Haley or King Aiden will figure it out first, but they won’t look for me. I’m a wolf.”
Paige sighed, “It’s brilliant but it’s sad. You should take credit. Make your mark on the supernatural world in a light shining way. Your Resistance network is beyond impressive, but that has to be in the shadows. This could be your moment to reclaim everything you lost. You could have everything you deserve.”
I shook my head, “I can’t take the risk Xander’s family wouldn’t use it because it came from me. I can’t do that.” They all sighed but let it go.
I locked everything up knowing tomorrow I’d be back, producing this in mass so I could flood the allies with Laxenread. Well, as much as I could, given the materials I had on hand. I’d get it to them on my sixteenth birthday if they let me come home. If not, I’d give them the building in Yellow Hills we’d gone in and cleared out. It wasn’t my first choice on giving it to them, but everything would change after my birthday. It was going to be different now. I was going home.
Haunting Movements
Alexander is Twenty Years Old
Alexander was annoyed. I punched a bag, and it fell onto the ground. Angela popped to me. I turned right away greeting my sister. “Hey, Ang.” TJ popped to her a second later. I laughed, “You guys look like you are up to something.” Klaus smirked.
Angela nodded telling me, “We are and we want your help.” I asked, “Me?” TJ laughed. I asked, “Why are you laughing?” He shrugged, “I said the same thing when she told me we were coming to you.” I would argue, but I had to be last on the list of people to help.
