I groaned, “Look… I did not call you to argue… I need you to go to the new building I acquired…” She asked, “The most recent one?” I answered, “Yes that one…” She snorted, “You know when you say the new building it’s not exactly a small selection of buildings.”

I replied, “I know there are several… but you literally knew which one I meant. Anyway, if you could use a spell to make it look like the sky inside…” Paige snorted, “The sky? Why would you need that? This request makes no sense.”

I groaned, “I know that doesn’t make sense, but… well it does…” Paige laughed, “Fine. I’ll go now.” I let out a breath saying, “Ok, thanks.” Sometimes I was pretty sure she just liked to give me crap when she’d planned to do what I asked all along.

I explained to Kingsley, “She’s going to get that done. Then you can fly inside. I mean… I know it’s not outside but…” She quickly cut me off, “It’s more than I’ve had in sixteen years. I don’t remember ever flying.” That was really sad. Apollo, Ajax, Sugar, Pepper, and literally every wolf I knew loved running. If they couldn’t remember doing so it would be sad.

I rambled, “It’s a big building too so…” She quickly said, “I appreciate it.” I asked, “So…I remember reading Dragons eat people… Does Kayda want to eat those guys?” Her eyes flickered and became purple. So cool. She stepped further away than a wolf would to shift, but that made sense since she was so big.

I shirked, “Oh my gosh. This might the coolest moment of my entire day…. no life. A Dragon. I saw you shift into a Dragon.” She ate them and shifted back. Out of nowhere she gasped like she was in pain. Uhh what? Did she have indigestion?

I asked, “Uhh what’s wrong?” She questioned, “When did your family die? The exact date?” Not a topic I liked discussing but I could give her an event that would tell her the date. I was also proud of Elise and all she accomplished. I was proud everyone knew the date she took over.

I explained, “You’d probably know it best by the Luna Ceremony that happened that day. Everyone… I mean… I was supposed to be there.” I wanted to be there more than anything. I ruined my whole life that night. I should’ve just stayed with my dad all day. Just like I had for Elise and EJ’s Luna Ceremony. The odds of being in a car crash twice like that were practically non-existent.

Kingsley whispered, “It was you. All this time it was you.” That didn’t make sense. I asked, “Huh? What was me? I didn’t… I’m not a Luna.” She snorted, “You belong to Alpha Alexander Conners therefore you are a Luna. I just mean that day I had this overwhelming feeling that something bad happened. It was you. I am somehow connected to you. My Dragon keeps referring to you as our pet.”

That was easily a nicer name that I got around the pack. I shrugged, “I could be a Dragon pet… since … well, you don’t drink blood or anything… I mean… I have given some Vampire’s blood… to save them…” Charles. I’d saved Charles.

He’d come into town to surprise me and happened to be where a group of Hunters were. I’d killed them and waited for his bloodline to get to him. Another time I’d had two of his Vampire children out with me and they’d gotten hurt.

So, I had to give them blood to heal. I put it in a cup and everything, which had amused them all. It wasn’t like they bit me, I cut myself for them. Which…apparently made their makers interest in me abundantly clear to them…which still didn’t make sense.

Paige sent out the all clear to my phone and that she was heading out. I grabbed Kingsley saying, “Come on.” I stepped through the holoport and frowned. Paige had not left. I commented, “You said you were leaving and…”

Paige cut me off, “Yes, I possess the ability to lie. Unlike some of us.” I was working on it. Paige warned Kingsley, “Don’t hurt her or I will curse you.” Uhh, don’t threaten a Dragon. That was clearly a bad idea.

Kingsley laughed, “I won’t hurt her.” Paige studied her for a long moment. I was practically begging her with my eyes to stop it. Paige offered, “I don’t know what you are, but Melanie rescues people. If she trusts you then I will as well. I hope you enjoy the scenery inside. If you want me to change it and you turn out not to be an asshole I could change it for you.”

Kingsley replied, “Thank you for doing this.” Paige finally caught my eye and left but everything about her told me she was serious. She just casually threatened a Dragon without knowing it. That was no good.

Once Paige left, I took Kingsley to the door. I instructed, “ILYX, I need to set up Kingsley on the system. Only Paige, Kingsley, and I should have access to this building.” ILYX answered, “Of course, Melanie Jane. Put her hand on the palm scanner.”

Kingsley asked, “Was that Alpha Alexander Conners voice?” Gosh, I was hoping she didn’t know that since she was off grid, but then again, we were talking about Xander. I replied, “Huh? What? That… Xander… No?” Maybe I pulled off lying this time since she looked startled. Then she busted up laughing.

Caine linked, “YOU FOUND ANOTHER PERSON YOU JUST BROUGHT INTO THE RESISTANCE?!” I admitted, “I mean… technically haven’t brought her in. I did tell her about it… but to be fair, I shot two people to help her.” He groaned, “For fuck’s sake, Mel.”

Kingsley brought me back to the present, “You really are a bad liar.” Yeah, I’d heard that. I grabbed her hand and got her set up. I admitted, “Ok, I might have borrowed his voice… for reasons… and…” She jumped in, “Why isn’t the system named Xander then?” Because that was too obvious.

I explained, “It’s an acronym.” She snorted, “So the X is Xander. ILY. Oh my god. It stands for I love you Xander. That’s adorable.” How did she figure it out so fast? I replied, “What? Huh? That’s… a random group of words… you threw together… not me…. I did not say that…”

She laughed, “Please quit while you are behind. How is the Resistance leader the worst liar ever?” I admitted, “I’m pretty good at evading… I studied a lot about Fairies when I was younger.” The pang that reminded me of Jared nearly sent me to my knees. I missed him so much. He’d always smile at me. He was my friend. No, he was family and now I was nothing to him.

I got everything set up in the system for Kingsley and took her inside. She took off into the skies. I watched her in shock for several seconds before I got on setting things up for her. I had to help her. It was a thing I needed to do. No one could argue that.

When she came down, I was worried. This wasn’t big enough for Dragon. She had to do so many loops, and it wasn’t the actual sky. I apologized, “I’m sorry… I know it’s not much… but …” She hugged me tight and started to cry. Great. Good job. You made the Dragon cry.

She whispered, “I’ve flown for the first time today. I don’t know if I ever did before, but I know that today I was in the skies. Even if they were an illusion.” She started to sob, and I understood that it was coming from her very soul because I had this moment myself sometimes. So, I held her while she cried it out.

When she stopped, she pulled back without looking at me. She apologized, “I’m sorry. I have been emotional lately.” Iadmitted, “I get it… I’m emotional a lot myself…. and Paige said it’s good to cry it out… they just get me drunk to do it.”

She snorted, “You don’t strike me as someone who gets drunk a lot.” That was wrong. I laughed humorlessly, “I drink a lot… like a lot. It’s easier… especially on letter days.” It was coming up too, but I saw the question on her face.

I explained, “My family… well… and people I consider family… they send me letters. They are so angry… especially Jason. I used to call him Jase… but he doesn’t let me now. Anyway… we can get Paige to set up Holoports for you back here in other places. She likes setting them up… and based on what you do, and I do… I feel like we can help each other out… like a lot.”

She agreed, “Probably. I’ll eventually run out of money and…” I interrupted, “I can set up a diversified investment portfolio for you.” I did it for all my friends. Caine’s was the most expansive because he was going to have to invest a lot into fixing Black Path.

She agreed, “I’ll get everything to you.” Everything. All her money? Oh gosh. I replied, “Well, not everything… you should set up a few CD’s and a Roth IRA….” She cut me off, “What would a CD do? I don’t need to buy music.” They really sent her out here with no knowledge of the human realm. That was mean.
