I assured her, “You’ll figure it out. No one can keep you locked out. You’re our little one and you’re stubborn.” She beamed at me, “Thanks, big brother.” I kissed the top of her head, “Anytime.” I decided to do the Fairy mission first. Maybe Ariena would be there. Probably not if Uncle Aiden was sending me in, but I did have a lot of questions for that Fairy. Mostly what the hell her problem was.
I popped nearby the place where my target was. I noted that it was pretty well hidden, but I could tell there were more people here. I linked my Uncle Aiden, “Was my target supposed to be alone?” He answered, “Yes. Why, are there more people with him?” I answered, “I sense five people here, but Angela didn’t mention it.” Which meant she didn’t know. He said, “I’ll call this off.”
Oden scoffed, “Nope.” I agreed. I faded back and went inside and conjured the Fairy man’s weapon away. I flipped on the light and he called, “Ariena, you’re back very early. Are you ready to be my bad girl?” I said, “I have literally no interest in that.” He jolted and grabbed for his weapon, and I had to admit Angela was right, his face was comical.
I was on him in a second. I said, “For your crimes against the Holloran family, you are sentenced to death.” He faltered, “I…” Oden scoffed, “He didn’t even pop to give us a challenge.” Yeah, that was sad since I didn’t hit him with iron.
He declared, “I won’t turn on her.” I laughed, “She didn’t tell you anything worth knowing because she didn’t care about you. You think you’re special, but she knew we’d get you like we have the others, and she left you which meant we could find you. She didn’t care.” I ripped his heart out his chest and he turned to dust.
My Uncle Aiden popped into the room looking angry. He linked, “You weren’t supposed to come in.” I winked before answering, “That didn’t sound like any fun.” My cousin Figert popped in and wiggled his eyebrows. We moved silently through the house. I made clear signs to the closet in a room that look abandoned.
I called to the wind to blow the door off and gaped. Uncle Aiden whispered, “Goddesses above.” I asked, “What’s on their wrist?” Uncle Aiden made a sound I didn’t understand. I looked at Figert, but he shrugged.
My Uncle answered, “It’s why Angela didn’t see them.” Ok? Figert offered, “I feel like that requires more of an explanation.” My Uncle agreed, “It does but these are one of the ways to interfere with sight. They are incredibly hard to put together and it blocks sight entirely.”
I pressed, “So, not blurry?” He snorted, “It’s just a blank to them with this.” Figert knelt down saying, “You are all safe now.”Oden snarled, “THEY ARE PUPS!” Yeah, they were. They were terrified partial Fairy children.
I linked my mom, “We need you.” She popped in a second later with my dad. She gasped, “That evil BITCH!” They children actually snickered. My dad hugged me, “I’m proud of you.” My mom ranted, “I will HUNT that Ariena bitch down.”
Uncle Aiden said, “We haven’t been able to.” She hissed, “She is trafficking children!” He replied, “We are trying to locate her.” My mom scoffed, “Well, fuck that bitch and whoever is FUCKING hiding her!”
I linked her, “You’re right but the kids need you right now.” She blew out her breath and nodded to me. She kissed my temple then said, “You are an amazing man and I’m so incredibly proud of you. Go do what you need to, son. I can tell this isn’t over for you.”
I shrugged, “This was easy. Maybe the next guy will at least shimmer away and give me a challenge.” Her lips twitched into a smile. Dad growled, “What? NO! You don’t let him shimmer! Just kill him.” My mom replied, “He’ll win the fight.” My dad gaped at us both and we started laughing.
He shook his head and linked me, “You kill him quickly because if you get hurt…” I cut him off, “I won’t get hurt.” He sighed, “Fine. I’ll kick your ass if you do. I’m one of the few who still can, you know?” I admitted, “I know.” I gave him a hug then my mom, Uncle, and cousin. I watched for a second while my mom literally crawled into a closet to comfort those kids.
I popped out and took a few deep breaths. Oden growled, “Someone is messing with our sister’s sight, and I don’t like it.” I snorted, “You can say who it is. We both know.” He snarled, “Alania.” Yeah, she told someone how to do it. I replied, “Angela will get the last laugh. She’ll best them all.” Oden purred, “She will. Our sister is the best.” She was.
I made my way to the Demon portal. I picked the one on a mountain because I wanted the hike. Something Melanie couldn’t do right now because they wouldn’t let me heal her. That pissed me off all over again. I faded back when I reached the top and waited.
It was only five minutes before someone came. I grabbed the back of their shirt without them noticing and walked through into the Demon realm. I let go and trekked to where the man who needed to die lived. I easily felt Maximus nearby and sent him annoyance. He sent impatience and concern back. He’d expected me earlier. I assured him I was fine.
I went in through an open window in the target’s home. A silly mistake really when you lived how he did. I found him eating dinner. I commented, “That’s really not a good last meal.” He whirled, “You’re not the first to come and you won’t be the last.” He threw a knife. Oden scoffed, “Pathetic.” I called the wind and blew it away.
He frowned, “King Aiden sent you.” I let my eyes blaze, “Guess again.” He gasped, “A Conners child?” Oden grumbled, “Let me rip his throat out for that disrespect. We are a man.” I simply stared at the Demon before popping behind him.
I partially shifted and let Oden rip his throat out. Oden muttered, “Again with the not shimmering away. No one wants us to have any fun.” I had to agree with him. Maximus shimmered in complimenting, “Well done, cousin.”
I said, “Angela says we have to find someone Underground. We should start in the basement.” Maximus nodded. He commented, “I hate that she sees so much evil like this. Do you sense someone else here?” I admitted, “Nope. I don’t hear a heartbeat or anything. Maybe it’s a Vampire.”
He stopped walking then said, “You should get out of here then.” I replied, “No.” Oden took over saying, “Our sister said we’d call Iblis, not a Vampire. I doubt it is one. Maybe there isextensive soundproofing in the underground room.” That made more sense. Angela would’ve warned me if it was a Vampire. My wolf was definitely right about that. He snorted, “Of course I’m right.”
We moved silently down the stairs. Maximus snorted, “He wasn’t even hiding it.” There was a massive door with a lock on it. I conjured it off and opened it. I announced, “I hear the heartbeat now.” I followed it past the underground rooms.
I asked Maximus “Is it me or is this like some sort of time warp?” He said, “It does have everything looking very human realm nineteen fifties, just underground.” That was weird. I kicked the door off the hinges, and I heard a scream.
She sobbed, “I did everything the book said. Please, just check. Don’t be mad at me again.” I gently said, “He’s gone, and he can’t hurt you again.” She shook, “He is my master, and I love him.” She was lying.
I glanced at Maximus and sent him the emotion this man must have tricked her about getting saved before. He went over and used his abilities to undo the chains. They were Demon made and required a strong fireball. My healing light told me she had high levels of copper in her system.
I told Maximus, “I’ll need to heal her while you call Iblis.” She whispered, “My master would not allow such things. Please put the cuffs back on. I will not be tricked by a fake rescue again.” Oden growled angrily in my mind.
I asked, “Do you know any Fairies?” She admitted, “No.” I said, “Well, I have Fairy blood so I can’t lie. I promise you, this is not a trick. I killed the man upstairs.” I grabbed her and popped her up to him. She swayed on her feet as Maximus shimmered in.
She saw the Demon with his throat ripped out and a giggle bubbled out of her. She pointed and laughed so hard she clutched her knees. She waved, “You ripped his throat out. It’stoo good.” I looked at Maximus, confused. He shrugged and pointed to his phone.
I told her, “I’ll heal you now. The copper will be out of your system soon.” She snorted, “It’s been there so long I barely even notice anymore. At this point, I wouldn’t know how to use my powers if I tried.”
