I hugged her, “Because they are fools. We love you.” A few of her tears fell. She whispered, “I have tried so hard to…” She faltered then straightened, “I’ll talk the rest over with Lexi. You are their ally and this hurt you too.” I replied, “I can take it, mom.” She smiled sadly, “I know you can.”

I said, “It’s like a sucker punch they’d rather Melanie not dance for months, and Sam heal slowly from whatever is wrong with her.” She snorted, “Just another reason on top of ALL the reasons that confirm that child does not exist. Who wants their child to suffer unnecessarily? No fucking one. Especially NOT Drake and Sam. They are good people.”

Oden whined, “Mate is real.” I replied to him, “I know she’s real.” Phil came in with Lexi Scott. I stood and hugged her. I greeted, “Hey Aunt Lexi.” She wasn’t actually related to me, but she was family in all our minds. She winked, “I’ve got your mom.” Phil saluted me, “And by the fact I’m your Beta and cousin, I’ve got you.”

My mom argued, “If you could give us a minute, Alexander was sharing his sorrow.” I shrugged, “I’ll tell Phil.” Her face was blank when she nodded, “Of course.” She hugged me and linked, “I’m always here for you. You can tell me anything.” I replied, “I know.” I felt her eyes on me as I walked out of the house.

I grabbed Phil then faded back. I heard my dad arguing, “Drake it’s just that…” Drake’s voice cut him off, “It’s not an emergency.” My dad sighed, “I understand that but…” Drake’s voice crackled, “It’s the rules.” My dad asked, “Are you ok? Your voice sounds off.” It really did. He said, “I need to go. Sam needs me.” He hung up and I heard my dad slam his phone down.

I left and went outside. I called Jason. He answered, “Hey, Alexander.” I asked, “Is your dad ok?” He answered, “He’s stressed but he’s fine. It’s my mom and sister that aren’t.” I offered, “I can heal them.” He sighed, “I wish.” I pointed out, “I am offering.” I heard someone call him. He said, “I gotta go.”

Karina, an Omega, walked by with a plate of cookies and handed a few to Phil. I said, “Drake’s voice sounded weird, right?” Phil agreed, “It did. It was like static over the line.” I scoffed, “Which wouldn’t happen. Uncle Gunner is all over the networks and cell towers in this area.”

He ate a cookie then offered me one. He said, “It’s not that weird.” I scoffed, “What the hell are you talking about? It was really fucking weird then dad called him on it, and he had to go. That’s convenient.”

Oden growled, “Something is going on.” Phil urged, “Eat a cookie.” \

I grabbed one and snarfed it down grunting, “There. Happy?” He winked, “And now your hangry ass isn’t ready to detonate.” I deflated, “You’re right. It’s just a coincidence.” He agreed, “Exactly. I have your missions from Uncle Bjourn.”

I asked, “Do you have the one from Uncle Aiden too?” He said, “No, the secret Fairy that lives around here, but isn’t actually a secret yet hangs onto that notion he is, does.” I snorted, “You know his name.” He agreed, “I do.” I added, “And there is more than one.” He retorted, “But there is a main one.” There was.

He handed me a file. I opened it and grinned, “I get to kill someone.” He snorted, “Shocking. I also have the schedule for your squadron practice in the Hackura realm.” I’d taken on a bigger role there than I’d planned to do. That bitch started messing with my sister and I needed to be there more often to watch over Cassie.

I took it and reviewed everything. Phil said, “And the secret Fairy approaches.” The man in question chuckled, “Hello Beta wolf who knows my name.” Phil rolled his eyes saying, “Your name is absurd.” I shook my head and linked, “Now, he’s going to want a nickname.” Which he had, but I don’t think Phil had said it around him.

Ailbhe laughed, “Do I get a nickname?” Oden took over, “You have had one and have for years.” Phil groaned, “Oden!” Oden retorted, “I am not in a good mood, and I want to go kill people. He has the file, and I want it.” Ailbhe asked, “What’s the nickname?”

Phil sighed, “He can’t even ask the right questions. He didn’t ask why you want to kill things.” Ailbhe replied, “He always wants to kill things, but as I hear things being around as I am. I suspect I know why he wants to kill things.” He winked at me, “Which I agree you should do. The nerve of people to decline your and your mother’s healing. Fools.” He was somewhat right.

He pressed, “And my nickname is?” Phil sighed, “We call you Abe.” He laughed, “That is amusing. Here you go, Duke Alexander.” He handed me a file. I flipped it open and grinned, “Another person to kill.” He hummed, “Yes, your Enforcer blood Fae and wolf should be very happy. Take care.” He popped out.

Phil asked, “So what is it?” I replied, “Ariena has taken a new lover.” He snorted, “Can you not just kill the evil Fairy instead of her lovers?” I replied, “We can’t pop to her because she has something magical that prevents it.” Ariena was working against my family and had been trying to garner support to overthrow the Holloran’s. Which I would never let happen.

She’d kidnapped one of my cousins when they were little, but they’d outsmarted her and got away. I was pretty sure she’d been pouting about that for years now. If only she’d slip up and do more. He asked, “Have you gotten any further on her last name?”

I snorted, “If they weren’t all dead, I’d guess the ruling family before us. Maybe some escaped.” He shrugged, “Maybe. I find it weird no one mentions her last name.” I admitted, “I asked mom, and she didn’t know either.”

He hummed, “That’s weird.” It was. I just didn’t currently care. Oden growled, “I want to rip someone’s head off.” I asked, “In wolf form? Or half shifting?” He growled, “Both.” I linked my dad, “Is anyone having a rogue problem?” He snorted, “I’ll look into that. You be safe on your missions. Ok?” I agreed, “I will.”

He said, “You know, spying on my phone calls was annoying when you were a pup. Now, it’s just insulting you don’t think Iknow you’re here.” Damn the bond for giving me away. I sighed, “Mom is going to need you. This hurt her.” He replied, “And it hurt you.”

I snorted, “Yes, but not in the way it does mom.” I knew why they didn’t want me to heal Melanie. They were scared of me. That was abundantly clear at this point. He asked, “What do you mean?” I explained, “She thinks they don’t like her powers.”

He shouted, “What the literal fuck?” I reasoned, “She has a point. They let everyone other Fairy use their powers, and they ask Cousin Emmaline a lot about mates. Mom has her hang ups because she wants to be accepted.” He growled, “I’ve got her.” I knew that.

He added, “But seriously, your ass will kill those people and not get a scratch on you. That’s not just an order from your dad either. I’m saying it as your one day Council leader.” He was going to join the Werewolf council when we took over after taking some time off. It was all but guaranteed.

I teased, “You could’ve just said as the Alpha.” He snorted, “I’m currently a figure head. You and EJ are in charge.” We were but we weren’t. EJ suggested a hybrid style that was brilliant, but that was EJ for you. I decided to use every advantage I had and popped to Angela.

TJ winked at me while my sister smiled. I teased, “Were you waiting for me?” TJ shrugged, “Yup. Ang said you were coming.” Angela said, “The Fairy has a weapon under the pillow. It wasn’t going to hurt you, but his face when he reaches for it on the path where I tell you about it and not finding it is pretty comical. You even smirk.” I threw my head back and laughed.

I asked, “And the other one?” She made a face, “He’s a very bad guy.” I knew that. I told her, “You don’t have to look into his path’s little one.” She sighed, “I was curious, but he is very bad. There is someone you need to save with him. She’s locked Underground. Call Iblis when you find her, he will help.” So, itwas a Demon. Which wasn’t surprising since I was going to kill one.

I asked, “Is Maximus going to show up?” She laughed, “You’re killing a Demon. Don’t ask such silly questions.” I grinned teasing, “Right? What was I thinking? Of course he shows up.” She hummed, “I just don’t know sometimes what you all are thinking.”

I asked, “Do you know who our cousin’s mate is?” She replied, “Maximus asked me not to look.” I raised an eyebrow and TJ snickered. She huffed, “Maybe I peeked. She’s hidden somewhere and the paths about how she comes into our lives are confusing.”

I questioned, “Confusing how?” She said, “Some are blurry for some reason. Others we are A LOT older. The blurry ones keep firming up.” Which would drive her crazy. I asked, “When did they sure up?” She admitted, “Earlier.” Earlier when Melanie and Sam got into a car accident? Oden growled. I shook myself. That was a crazy thought. The two were not related.
