I retorted, “That’s literally in my blood.” He ruffled my hair. The nurse said, “She threw up again.” Again? When did I throwup before? The doctor nodded, “They are transferring her to a private hospital nearby where they live.” She shrugged and left the room.

The doctor went through a bunch of stuff with my dad when I smelled my mom coming. I burst into tears when Grandpa Ben wheeled her in. I sobbed, “Mom!” Grandpa wheeled her next to me and she took my hand. She whispered, “I’m so sorry, Melanie Jane.”

My dad growled, “It wasn’t your fault, Sam. Some jackass t-boned you guys, lost control and hit you again, then left you guys down in a ravine.” I hummed, “It’s very rare for Harbison’s Hawthorn trees to be in Tennessee and we hit one.”

My mom snorted, “Great. It’s rare and we just happened to find one.” That seemed very strange and unlikely. I added, “They are actually rare and endangered in this state… it’s a large tree for a ravine… they are large and…”

The doctor chuckled, “She certainly knows facts.” I did and they weren’t adding up here. Something was going on and I needed to figure it out. I’d just add it to my growing list of things to figure out. My mom squeezed my hand, and I squeezed hers. We were ok and that was what mattered.

Killing Spree

Alexander is Eighteen Years Old

Alexander was furious. I hit the heavy bag harder than I had been. EJ was off with Elise after their mating ceremony, and I was glad he wasn’t paying attention to my feelings. Melanie didn’t show you for their damn ceremony or reception.

Hell, neither Sam nor Melanie showed, and it was BULLSHIT! Oden growled, “She was supposed to be here.” She was always supposed to be at something then she never was. My dad came into the gym, and I noted everyone else left.

He got behind the bag and let me keep swinging. Then he ended up holding the bag up himself when I knocked it off. He said, “Your Uncle Aiden and Uncle Bjourn have things for you to do.” I snorted, “I’m here because EJ is about to go on his honeymoon.” He replied, “Neither will take you long and I’m here. You’ll need the missions.”

I faltered then asked, “Why?” He set the bag down then slowly answered, “Sam and Melanie were in a car accident. That’s why they didn’t make it to the ceremony.” Oden snarled in my head. I asked, “Is she ok?” My dad raised an eyebrow, “Both are healing.” I nodded, “So, mom went to heal them.”

His jaw locked, “No, it wasn’t an emergency.” I asked, “WHO GIVES A FUCK?!” He replied, “They do.” I questioned, “What are the injuries?” He answered, “Sam had some cuts from the glass that are already healed. She had a concussion and some other injuries that will take some time for her wolf to heal.”

I waited for the injury listed we both knew I actually wanted. He sighed, “Melanie suffered a very bad inner ear problem.” I didn’t know what that was. Oden chimed in, “I don’t either.” Iasked, “What does that mean?” He admitted, “I’m not entirely sure.”

I called my Uncle Bjourn and he faded in. My dad snorted. I asked, “What does it mean?” He would’ve heard us talking. He said, “There are differing severities.” I said, “But Uncle Gunner got into the chart, so you know how severe it is.”

He agreed, “I do, but their tools are primitive compared to ours. The scans were awful.” I snorted, “Pack hospitals…” I trailed off when they shot each other looks. Oden began to growl. I demanded, “Why did you two just look at each other like that?”

My dad answered, “Because they were taken to the human hospital in Blue Moon’s territory. Drake is filing a lawsuit against them.” I snarled, “WHY?! Did they hurt her?” Oden came forward and my hands began to shift.

Thor ordered, “Pup, calm down. She is fine.” Oden let me take back over. My dad asked, “Would you care to comment on what just happened?” I answered, “No. What did they do?” He answered, “They wouldn’t give him details on his wife or pup’s condition. They were holding Melanie down instead of simply answering if Sam was stable, and threatening Melanie with restraints.”

I growled, “Did they bruise her?” Uncle Bjourn answered, “Yes, they did.” They were dead. I was going to get their names and kill their human asses. I asked, “What’s inner ear damage mean?” He answered, “It can cause hearing loss, dizziness, balance problems…” I interrupted, “She’s a dancer!” He winced, “She won’t be dancing for a bit.”

I demanded, “Call them back and say I’ll come heal her! She loves to dance. They can’t just take that from her because they don’t want our help. That’s not fair.” My dad agreed, “I’ll call them again.” I nodded, “Thank you. Is that all Uncle Bjourn?”

He groaned, “No. It can cause nausea, vomiting, ringing in the ear, you can feel like the ear is full of something, and it likelywill give her a headache.” I growled, “For how long?” He sighed, “If I could scan her with our tools, I could give you a better answer. Levi is going to try, but they’ve locked her down for now. Drake is full wolf dad mode and none of us can blame him for that.”

Oden snarked, “I can blame him for not wanting us or mom to heal her.” Yeah, we could. Uncle Bjourn admitted, “From the hospital records, they estimated a year of issues, but they think she’s human. They also think there is permanent damage, but she’s a Supernatural. It could be four to six months before she’s fully recovered.” I sent my fury to both of them.

I ground out, “She LOVES to dance!” My dad said, “We know that.” I snorted, “Someone should mention to Drake she can hardly fight and escape the people who bully her if she’s FALLING OVER BECAUSE SHE HAS NO BALANCE!”

Dad argued, “That’s not happening anymore.” That was because I’d threatened Robert within an inch of his life. I said, “The point stands. If they are attacked, she is vulnerable.” Which was something I could not allow. Dad inclined his head, “I’ll call him again. Ok?” I nodded, “Thank you.” He left with my uncle.

I went to find my mom because based on her feelings, she knew our healing had been turned down. I found her on the mountain. She greeted, “Hi, Alexander.” I grabbed her hand and popped her into the house.

I snapped us drinks and urged, “Out with it. You have sorrow to share, and I know you’re blocking most of it off from other people. You can’t with me because this is about our healing sides.” Something I enjoyed her being unable to do, when it was our shared power. I hated that she could usually do it about everything else, though.

She replied, “You have feelings about this I don’t understand.” I winked, “But I asked you first.” She sighed, “I thought Sam and I were friends.” I replied, “You are.” Shescoffed, “Then why is it always me?” I asked, “What do you mean?” She answered, “They don’t care when Emmaline uses her powers. Nor do they care when Sharon and her kids use theirs.”

She added, “Which I think is great for my cousins. I love that they accept them. It just fucking sucks no one can ever fucking do that with me. You want anyone else to use their power? Yes, everyone wants that. Me? Nope. Why the fuck would we do that? Let’s only do it in life or death situations. That’s not harder for me to fucking heal or anything. Let’s have people suffer unnecessarily. That’s obviously the better options.”

I sipped my whiskey, “Sarcasm noted.” She winced, “Why don’t they like my powers? I just don’t fucking get it. I’m fine to use in battle but not every day. I’ve healed countless fucking wolves, and other Supernatural’s, who had trouble conceiving. I have bent over backwards, fucking literally, to block people from getting Sam in battle. Then they practically smack me in the face with their rejection of my powers.”

She slammed her martini and conjured another one. She snorted, “No one else has to sensor their powers around them. We all can’t fucking pop to them and that’s bullshit but whatever. No one else ASKS to use their powers.”

“They all clamor to hear Emmaline whisper mated pairs. Don’t get me wrong, I do too. I fucking love her power. They have Sharon’s pup using water powers, and hers, all the damn time. Why the FUCK doesn’t anyone ever accept me for who I am?”
