I can just picture his teasing face as he types.

Olivia

The only drool around here is coming from your dog. Who, according to Bee this morning, is the best dog in the whole wide world. She’s cleaning her room right now so she can show Gizmo all her toys.

Miles

Nice save on the drool part.

I grin at the phone and can almost hear his laugh. Dots appear again as he types.

Miles

The best dog in the whole wide world? That’s a pretty big honor and very cute. I’ll let him know as soon as the snoring sleeping beauty wakes up.

Just picturing the two unlikely pair sleeping together has me laughing softly.

Olivia

I should get ready and check on Bee. See you soon.

Miles

I’m looking forward to it.

Pulling back the covers, I quickly throw on some white cut-off shorts and a green tank top. I decide to go with a cute, messy bun today to keep the Florida heat off my neck as I walk to the bathroom to get ready.

A smile plays on my lips as I replay yesterday in my mind. I wash my face and apply some light makeup as Miles invades my thoughts, which seems to be my new daily normal. It’s gettingharder and harder to keep my heart out of it. Every time we talk, I feel a piece of me slowly begin to open up. I don’t know if I have the strength to fight it anymore. What scares me the most is that I’m not sure I want to.

CHAPTER NINETEEN

MILES

Pulling up to the yellow cottage a short time later, I see my bike sitting in the driveway. I asked Travis earlier if he could drop it off for me. I’ve got some work to do at the bar today and plan on driving over there when I’m done with our walk. With the opening less than a week away, I’ve got a million things left on my to-do list that need to be done.

Scooping up Gizmo, I grab the box of muffins and walk up the front porch. Bee opens the door before I can even knock.

“Miles! You’re here! And you brought Gizmo just like you said you would!”

Gizmo’s butt starts to move like crazy in my arms at the sound of Bee’s voice. He’s just as excited to see her as she is him.

“And I brought you muffins,” I say, holding up the pink box. “Lyla told me which ones were your favorite.”

“Banana chocolate chip?”

“Yep,” I grin. “You have good taste. Those are my favorite, too.”

“They are my momma’s favorite, too!”

Olivia appears in the doorway and smiles when she sees me. Her dimples go straight to my heart as our eyes meet. She hasher hair up in a messy bun with little makeup. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more beautiful sight.

“Can Gizmo see my room before breakfast?” I tear my gaze away from Olivia and smile at Bee.

“Sure.” I set him down, and he immediately runs to her as she squats down and hugs him.

“Come on, Gizmo. My room is this way,” she says, walking into the house and leading the way. He happily follows her, and the two disappear around the corner.

Olivia smiles after them before turning back my way.
