“Later, my wife….you’re mine,” he whispers in my ear before pulling away and turning toward his brother. I stand there, feeling the electric energy between us, leaving me breathless. “We’re coming!” He yells to Miles. He holds out his hand to me, amusement flashing in his greys as I feel my face get warm. He knows exactly how he affects me and loves every minute of it. Iput my hand in his as we walk over to his family, where they have gathered to take pictures.
I’m so swept up in congratulations, and photography poses that I don’t notice the figure standing under the dock, hidden in the shadows.
Their fingers gripthe wooden post tightly as anger and jealousy surge through their body. They watch for a few more minutes before turning and walking away. Dark thoughts run through their mind as they get in a car and drive away.
CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR
RYDER
Isip on my bourbon and watch my wife dance with Sophia and my sister.
Wife.
I still can’t believe it. I watch her move to the music, her perfect hips swaying in that white dress. The soft material caresses her skin, giving me a glimpse of her upper thighs with each movement. She laughs at something Savi said, her eyes full of joy. She’s back to the Eve I knew before, but stronger…more free.
“I remember the night of our wedding,” Travis chuckles beside me. “I couldn’t get Sophia to the bedroom fast enough. There’s something about the wordwifethat makes it all the more intense.”
Travis is right. I’ve been counting down the hours since our ceremony when I can finally get my wife alone. After what felt like a hundred photos, we had a catered dinner on the deck. My mom did an amazing job finding someone on short notice to transform the backyard into a magical place for Eve. The pool is full of floating candles, casting a warm ambiance with the fairylights strung up above. Music plays softly through the speakers as my brothers and I watch the girls dance.
“I didn’t think I could be any more obsessed with her than I already was, but now that she’s my wife, the need to protect and worship her at the same time just got ramped up to probably an unhealthy state,” I laugh.
“I’ve been married for a year, and I can tell you that it doesn’t go away. If anything, it gets stronger.” Travis sips his bourbon, his eyes glued to Sophia.
“It’s just you and me now, Jake. Don’t go falling in love and make me lose my best wingman.” Miles chuckles at how our girls have Travis and me mesmerized. I couldn’t tear my gaze from Eve if my life depended on it. As if feeling my eyes on her, she turns and winks at me before giving me a sway of her hips that has my dick stirring in my pants.
“I think you’re safe. No one has caught my interest for more than one night, and I’m perfectly happy with our wingman team we have going on.” Jake clinks his glass with Miles and grins.
“We do make a damn good team. Remember the cheerleading team that came here last year on vacation?”
I tear my gaze from Eve and frown at Miles. “God, that was a rough night. I heard both of your names being chanted in my head for days after. I didn’t get an ounce of sleep that night.”
“Neither did we, brother,” they both laugh as I roll my eyes at them.
The song changes to a slow one, and I stand up at the same time Travis does. I guess both of us are eager to get our wives in our arms. Savi takes my seat and joins in on their conversation, which has changed to what bar they are making their appearance at tonight. I make a beeline for my wife and see her smile when she notices me walking toward her.
“Does my wife care to dance one last time?” I’ve made sure never to let a slow song go to waste. Any chance to get her bodyagainst mine, I’ll take it. I did play nice and let my dad and brothers have one earlier, but there is no more sharing tonight.
“I would love to dance with my husband.” Her eyes shine with love as my arm finds her waist, bringing her flush against my body. She gasps when she feels me rock hard against her.
Our bodies start swaying to the music as I bend close to her ear. “I think I’ve reached the end of my patience,” I murmur against her ear. My hand drifts down to her backside and squeezes, pressing me further into her stomach. “I need to be in my wife right now. I’ve never needed anything more in my life.” I kiss her neck and feel her pulse beating rapidly against my lips. “I need to taste my wife’s pleasure on my tongue.” I lick her soft skin before sucking deep. She softly moans, and the last of my willpower vanishes.
I swoop her up in my arms, and she laughs against my chest. Her arms come around my neck and weave into my hair. “Say goodnight to everyone,” I say under my breath. Our daughter is already sleeping peacefully upstairs with my parents, so I give her just enough time to wave to my brothers and the girls before I walk us to our place.
“You lasted longer than I thought you would.” I hear Travis yell.
“You cost me twenty dollars! I thought you could at least go another thirty minutes,” Miles shouts.
“Pay up, boys,” Jake laughs. “My time was the closest.” Eve giggles as their voices drift away as I reach the front door. I open it before carrying my wife over the threshold. Kicking the door shut with my foot, I head straight to the bedroom before I set her down. Her eyes light up when she sees all the sunflower bouquets. She watches me as I light all the candles in the room, casting a warm glow on us.
I take in the way she looks right now, wanting to commit it to memory. Her cheeks are flushed as I run a strand of her hairthrough my fingers. The candlelight dances across it as the gold and auburn blend together. Her blue eyes capture me, drawing me in.
“Thank you,” she whispers, putting her hands on my chest and sliding them up around my neck.
“For what?” I smile down at her.
“For everything…for loving me. For becoming my husband. For giving me the best day of my life today. For all of this,” she says, looking around at all the flowers and candles.
“I did have a hard time sneaking away to do the flowers and candles,” I chuckle, “but the rest…the rest is as easy as breathing. It may have taken us a little bit longer to get here, but I was always destined to be standing right here, right now, with you as my wife.”
