“Lucky me.” She laughs as Mav grabs her and buries his face in her neck from behind.

“Yes, lucky you.” He whispers something in her ear, and by the look in her eyes, I can tell he just reminded her how lucky she is.

“You ready for another round?” Noah asks, looking at us.

“Sure. Thanks.” I turn my attention back to Travis once they leave to go back to the table. “Okay, spill it. What did they say?”

He grins at me. “It’s guy talk. I can’t tell you.”

“You obviously heard my girl talk the other night since my vibrator was mentioned. I at least deserve something from your conversation.”

“Just remember what I said in the text,” his eyes instantly go from playful to pure heat. I can feel the desire radiating in the air around us, filling me with a deep longing in my core.

“I remember,” I whisper.

“Good. I meant every word of it. I’ve seen guys look at you since you arrived—just waiting to get a glance from you. A sliver of hope that they have a chance to take you home. I’m not sharing you with anyone, not even a toy. If we’re going to do this, I’ll be the only one touching you.”

If it were anyone but him saying this to me after not knowing me for very long, they probably would have gotten a few choice words before I walked away. With him, though, it amplifies what I’m feeling and shoots desire straight through my body. I have a feeling a lot of girls would love to hear thosewords come from Travis Montgomery’s lips. “It goes both ways. I don’t share either.”

He steps closer to me, invading my space until my senses are surrounded by a hint of spice and pure male that’s only Travis. Bending down close to my ear, his words flow through me, warming me like a shot of good tequila. “I’ve never wanted anyone like I want you. It’s your body I crave, your image that I picture as I stroke myself late at night.” His breath on my ear sends shivers down my spine. “Are we clear then? No sharing?” I nod my head, unable to speak. I feel him grin against my ear before he pulls back and walks to the table.

I swallow hard and stand there, trying to fill my lungs with air that he just stole from me. I slowly walk back to the table. My whole body vibrates with need as I sit down with shaky legs and run my hand through my hair. I avoid Travis’s eyes as I take a deep sip of my margarita, not trusting myself that I won’t sit on his lap and purr like a kitten. His hand finds my thigh under the table and firmly keeps it there as his thumb traces circles on my bare skin.

“Hi Sophia, I thought that was you.”

I look up and see Brett standing there. He’s a teacher over in the middle school and we’ve talked a few times at teacher meetings and seminars. He’s good-looking in a clean-cut kind of way. I’ve always felt he’s had a crush on me and has hinted at asking me out, but I always change the subject and start talking about work. He’s a sweet guy, but I’ve never gotten so much as a spark with him, unlike the inferno sitting next to me, gripping my thigh tighter as I smile up at Brett.

Chapter Fourteen

Travis

I forcemyself to loosen my hold on her thigh. The need to put my arm around her or pull her on my lap to show this guy that she’s off limits hits me by force, taking me off guard. I can tell he likes her by the way his eyes roam over her. I clench my jaw so tight that I’m surprised my molars haven’t crumbled.

“Hi, Brett. I didn’t know you would be here tonight.” Sophia smiles back at him, and jealousy shoots through my veins.

“I’m here with some friends,” he points to the table in the corner. “We heard there was a good band tonight, so we came to check it out. I guess you’re doing the same.”

“We are. The drummer is one of their brothers.” She points to Ryder and Jake.

“No shit.” He grins at my brothers. “He’s really good.”

“We like to think so,” Jake says, eyeing the guy. He can sense this guy likes Sophia, too. It’s good to know he’s got my back and is already thinking of her as someone to look out for.

Brett looks at me and then at Sophia as if trying to figure out if she’s here with me. I glance at Max on the other side of Sophia and see him playing tic-tac-toe with Emma. I decide to push my luck since he’s busy, and move my hand from her thigh and casually place it on her chair as my hand starts to play with her hair. I feel her stiffen underneath me before she leans back against my touch.

Brett must take the hint from either my arm around her or the fact that I’m daring him with my eyes to make a move. He throws his hands in his pockets, “I better get back over to my friends. It was good seeing you,” he says to Sophia.

“It was nice seeing you too. I’ll see you in school at our next meeting.”

He nods his head before walking away.

“You should have just pissed on her, Travis. It would have been way more effective.” Bella giggles into her drink as my brothers laugh.

“My job got a whole hell of a lot easier. You’ve got your own guard dog now, so I’m not needed as much,” Mav grins at Sophia. “I thought the guy was going to piss himself with the three of you looking at him like that,” he motions to my brothers and me.

“It was just Brett from school. He’s a teacher at the middle school. He’s harmless,” Sophia says next to me.

“He likes you. Therefore, he’s not harmless,” I mutter.
