Sipping some iced water, I decided the best thing to do would be to keep it simple.
Alexis: I miss you too x
CHAPTER19
Jordan
My alarm cutinto the dream I was in the middle of. A dream that featured Lex and me back together, enjoying life. It was a sweet, sweetdream; something that seemed far away in reality. Rolling onto my side, I reached for my phone to switch off the joy-killer. Squinting, I noticed a new message sent shortly after one in the morning.
Alexis: I miss you too x
I sat bolt upright in bed. Three months without any contact and a four-word message had my heart pounding. Before the moment was lost, I replied, trying to keep it light.
Jordan: Hey, good to hear from you. How’s things?
Not expecting her to reply straight away given the time she had sent the message, I placed my phone back on the bedside table, threw back the duvet, and prepared to get up. The question that appeared within seconds of pressing send totally floored me.
Alexis: Do you have time to meet for coffee today?
I stopped in my tracks, feet hitting the floor, and my arse sinking firmly back down onto the bed as I grabbed the phone again.
Jordan: I’m meant to be in the studio.
Alexis: Oh, okay. Never mind. Another time.
There was no way in hell I would pass up the opportunity to see Lex again. If my options were meeting her or spending the day with the lads, I knew exactly who I would pick.Total no-brainer.
Jordan: I can rearrange things.
Alexis: Really?
I could almost feel her surprise crackling through the screen.
Jordan: Yeah. Just tell me where and when.
She replied with a smiley face, the name of a coffee shop on the King’s Road, and the suggestion of midday.
Jordan: I’ll be there.
I debated whether to add a kiss or ‘looking forward to it’. But Lex hadn’t given me any indication ofwhyshe wanted to meet, so I decided against it. Maybe she was going to tell me to fuck off and get out of her life, and I certainly wouldn’t look forward to that. But after three months of radio silence, I’d take whatever I could get.
Loud pounding on the door brought me back to reality.
“Jordan? You up?” Levi called. “We need to go soon.”
Realising I’d have to sack off my planned studio time, I needed to come up with a plausible excuse quickly. “Sorry, mate. Don’t think I should come today. Not sure my voice is up to it.” I coughed and hoped it sounded bad enough to be believable.
The door opened a few inches, and Levi stuck his head in, a frown furrowing his brow. “Thought you sounded a bit rough last night.”
I slid back into bed and pulled the covers over me. “Probably need a day off and some rest.” I coughed again for good measure. “Wouldn’t want to give whatever it is to you guys.”
Levi nodded. “You got it. There are some tracks we can start to lay down that don’t need vocals yet, so we can do that today. And if you need anything, give us a shout.”
“Will do, and sorry again. Hopefully, it’s just a twenty-four-hour thing and I can be over it by tomorrow.”
“Feel better.” Levi jerked his chin and shut the door behind him.
The next few hours dragged. Setting an alarm for seven o’clock when I had somewhere to be at nine was fine. But when I didn’t have anything to do for another three hours, time seemed to stand still. I lounged around in bed, checking my socials and jotting some possible lyrics on my phone until I heard the others go out. Pulling on a sweatshirt over the T-shirt and joggers I wore to bed, I headed downstairs to make a bacon bap and a coffee before settling down in front of the television to watch reruns of an old comedy series, where the love lives of the main characters seemed to work out perfectly.
