“What else could I say?” I crossed the room, stopping inches away from him. “Oh, wait, Jordan’s here and we kissed last night.”
“That would have been a start.”
“Are you ready to tell everyone that we kissed?”
“Are you?”
The fun atmosphere between us quickly dissolved as the reality of the situation started to kick in.
Jordan narrowed his eyes. “I think I should go.”
“Probably for the best.”
He opened his mouth as if to say something, but then thought better of it and left the room, leaving me alone.
I sank onto the edge of the bed, resting my elbows on my knees and placing my screwed-up fists in my eyes.
Oh, what a tangled web.
My phone pinged with a message. I reached over and grabbed it from the side, hoping to find something from Sadie to help ease the stress of the morning so far.
Theo: Kelvin and I will be at the gig tonight. Can we catch up beforehand?
Shit.
Could this day get any more complicated?
CHAPTER13
Jordan
“I swearshe had a guy in her room, mate. There was a t-shirt on the floor by the bed that definitely isn’t her style.” Levi took a huge swig of his builder’s tea.
We sat in one corner of a greasy spoon, recommended to Levi by someone he’d met the night before. On the plates in front of us were huge full English breakfasts with the works, even black pudding. Ravenous, I’d practically demolished half of it already, the unexpected physical exertion of the night before taking it out of me. Chewing on the edge of a piece of toast, I wondered how to respond to his statement.
Mate, it was my t-shirt.
She’s only human. She’s allowed to have a one-nighter on tour. After all, we will.
Oh, and we slept together again last night. Only slept though, nothing else, unless you count the most amazing kiss.
After the way Lex and I had ended things that morning, I didn’t feel comfortable saying any of those things to Levi.
“Didn’t think Lex was like that,” I mumbled instead.
Levi placed his mug down on the table a little harder than intended. “Jealous or something?”
I grunted, trying to put him off the scent, not wanting to talk about Lex. “What were you doing in her room anyway?”Now, that doesn’t make me sound jealous at all.
He ran a hand through his hair, tugging at his earlobe. I hadn’t known Levi for so many years without knowing when he was lying, and that action gave it away.
“I wanted to check on the details for the remaining dates. Get to know a bit about the support acts, show them a bit of love on the socials, that kind of thing.”
I nodded, shovelling a forkful of beans and egg into my mouth. Seriously, this breakfast fucking sorted me out. “Sounds good. The bands will love that. Wish we’d had someone to do that for us.”
The unspoken words hung between us. If I hadn’t fucked everything up a year ago, we would have had exactly that. The backing of a huge name, the kudos, the fans. But I screwed it up for everyone else for the sake of a cheap high.
I’d heard every word between him and Lex, touched at how much he cared. Despite our long friendship, we didn’t always share our emotions freely and certainly didn’t talk as much as we probably should.
