What I need is for the images of her in the shower to fuck off out of my head so I can concentrate.
Jordan: Wondered if you fancied grabbing something to eat.
Lex: Ugh, I really don’t want to go out.
Quickly, I checked the hotel restaurant times. If we hurried, we could probably get a table.
Jordan: The restaurant downstairs is still open.
I watched the screen.Alexis Jagger typing…Why I had her down with her full name, I didn’t know. Maybe to differentiate who we were now from who we had been. Then it stopped and instead, my phone rang.
“Jordan, I can’t even be bothered to get dressed. Aren’t you knackered?”
“Yeah, but I feel the need to dosomething. I’m so fucking bored.”
Lex sighed. “Then why don’t you go out?”
“Because I don’t want to spend the evening with Levi, Jude, and Robbie.” I sucked in a breath, a sudden bolt of nerves hitting me. “I want to see you.”
The line went silent, but I knew Lex hadn’t ended the call because I could still hear her breathing.
“Have you been drinking?” she asked.
“Is it really such a crazy idea for me to want to spend time with you?”
“Considering that until last night you pretty much blanked me, yes. Now you’re acting like we’re…” She stopped, not completing the sentence, then changed the subject. “Why don’t you come to my room and we’ll order something? My room number is 817.”
I didn’t need to be asked twice. Her room was only a few doors down from mine and I could be there in less than thirty seconds. But I didn’t want to seem too eager. To kill some time, I decided to change my t-shirt, putting on a black shirt instead. Putting my phone on silent, I tucked it in the back pocket of my jeans and slipped out of my room.
When Lex opened the door, I didn’t expect her to be so shower-fresh. Her dark hair was bundled up in a towel and she wore a bathrobe. Immediately, my mind wandered to what she had on underneath it.
“See what I mean? I’m not exactly dressed for a night out.” She gestured me through into her room.
Unlike mine, which within minutes of arriving had my clothes and belongings strewn all over the place, everything was tidily put away. Her laptop lay open on the desk, notebook and phone next to it, so she hadn’t been lying about catching up on work.
“You look pretty good to me.” The words slipped out before I could catch them.
She let the door shut with a bang, which almost masked her exasperated sigh at my comment. Tightening the belt on the robe, she tossed the room service menu at me. “Order up whatever you want.”
I wanted to make a crass comment along the likes ofI want you, but you don’t appear to be on the menu. But I knew better than that. Opening up to her the night before had changed things between us, particularly now she knew everything that had happened in the past year.
Pretending to study the menu instead of her, I perched on the edge of her bed. “I’m thinking a burger with the works and maybe a side of garlic bread.”
“Hungry much?” Lex pulled the towel from her hair, the dark mass falling damply around her shoulders. She ran her fingers through it, causing a few drops of water to splash me.
“Unless you count what we had in the services earlier, I don’t actually remember the last time I ate.” If I thought about it, there might have been breakfast and some snacks during the previous day, but I preferred not to eat before a gig and certainly didn’t get the chance for food afterwards.
“Good point.” She grabbed the menu from my hands, the robe slipping slightly. I caught a glimpse of the curve of her breast, naked underneath the cotton. Hastily, she pulled at it to cover herself. “I’ll get a Cesar salad. And I really should put some clothes on.”
“Don’t bother on my account. It’s not anything I haven’t seen before.” I winked.
“Not the point, Jordan.” She shook her head and gathered a bundle of clothes from the chair before heading into the bathroom.
While she dressed and dried her hair, I ordered the food and a couple of soft drinks. Even though a beer would have gone down a treat, I didn’t think it wise. Any alcohol would make me speak even more truths.
I went to put the menu back into the stand on the desk when I spotted Lex’s phone flash up with a message. I wasn’t spying on her or being nosy, but a second one flashed almost immediately.
Sadie: OMG!!! What happened with Jordan??
