I swear Mum squealed like a teenager. Dad was more laid back and simply nodded.

“I’m so pleased to hear that, Mason. Why don’t you bring her over with you when you come?” suggested Mum, almost clapping her hands together in delight.

The thought hadn’t even occurred to me. I was headed over to Mallorca in a couple of weeks, nothing fancy, just a long weekend with the folks. It would be a perfect way to celebrate us becoming a thing again. I already had the time booked off work and if Ems asked Sonya soon, I was certain there wouldn’t be any issues.

“Don’t know why I didn’t think of that. Good idea, Mum.”

We chatted for almost an hour, them telling me about the new people who had moved in next door and how Dad was playing more golf. I loved how they’d managed to integrate themselves into the Spanish lifestyle so easily. When I heard the front door slam, I knew Ems was home.

“Gotta go. We’re going out tonight to a friend’s restaurant opening.” I briefly told them about Georgie and Marcus’s plans for this evening and they both agreed it sounded amazing. “I’ll chat to Ems about coming over with me and see you soon.”

They waved and we ended the video call.

I got off the bed and went to Ems’s room.

“Hey, babe. Can I come in?”

Ems mumbled something I didn’t quite hear, so I stuck my head around the door. “Everything okay?”

“Melody fucking Johnson. Unbe-fucking-lievable.” Ems pulled her shirt over her head, revealing a lacy bra.

I sensed her current mood might not be improved by me going over to her and burying my head in her cleavage. “What happened?”

“Have you seen the time? We’re going to be late and I have no idea what to wear. For fuck’s sake, they wouldn’t leave, Melody kept banging on about having paid for the room so they should be able to use it for as long as they wanted.” She was rambling.

“Ssshhh.” I crossed the room and grabbed her wrists, turning her to face me. “You’re not with them now. You’re with me.”

Her shoulders sagged. “Thank God.”

I traced a line along her jaw trying to keep my eyes on hers, rather than my gaze drifting towards her tits again. “Whatever you wear, you’ll look amazing.”

She glanced down at my attire. “And while I love you in a t-shirt and boxers, you really do need to put some clothes on too.”

“We could always take a rain check on the restaurant thing.” I moved closer to Ems, capturing her by the waist and pulling her towards me.

“Tempting though that thought is, I don’t want to let Georgie down. She’s a good friend and I really want to support her new venture.” Ems looked up at me.

Leaning down, I kissed her, then with great regret drew away. “You are a good friend, Ems. Georgie is lucky to have you.”

She smiled, softening after whatever had happened with her guests today. “She’s not the only one.”

“We’re going to be late.”I huffed, trying to apply lip gloss too quickly and ending up looking like the Joker.

“Chill out, babe. We’ll get there when we get there.” Mason was sprawled out on my bed looking devilishly handsome in black jeans and a fitted grey shirt with one too many buttons undone. He scrolled through his phone while he waited for me. “Actually, it means I can ask you something.”

“What?” I turned to look at him over my shoulder, scrubbing the gloss off with a cleansing wipe. Perhaps I’d try something more subtle.

“I’m going to see my parents for a long weekend in a couple of weeks. If you can get the time off work, they’d love to see you again.” He met my eyes, hope radiating in his expression.

Taken off guard by his suggestion, I didn’t know how to reply. I’d always got on well with his parents, especially his mum. Suzanne was almost more of a mum to me that Jaqueline was. But asking Sonya for time off now really didn’t seem like a good idea. She’d probably take it as me being irresponsible and not caring about my career.

“Sounds great…”

“But you don’t want to come. I can tell by your tone you’re not keen. No worries, we can always go another time.” Turning back to his phone, it seemed the conversation was closed.
