“Why did you say that?” I asked. I almost didn’t want to hear the answer.

Jack shrugged. “Because it’s the truth. You make me want to work harder. You make me want to get better. You make it easy, because I simply want you.”

My jaw dropped. We’d known each other a ridiculously short amount of time and for the most part, he’d been a total jerk to me. But I couldn’t deny his words hit me to my very core. Because he’d pretty much summed up how I felt too.

“What are you doing this weekend?” he asked.

“Nothing much. Lyla asked me if I wanted to go to the bar with the girls on Saturday night.”

“Oh.” He nodded, dropping his eyes.

I couldn’t resist. “Did you have something else in mind? Because I’m open to options.”

“Let’s say I can get this bike on the road, would you come away with me?”

My eyes widened. I’d never been on the back of a motorbike and I’m pretty sure my mother would have an absolute fit if I started now. But she wasn’t here, and I was. And Jack was asking me to go away with him.

“Consider it therapy. You can work the hell out of me all weekend.”

“On a bike? There’s no back seat!” I protested.

He let out a throaty laugh. “We can find a motel.”

I cocked my head. “I like the sound of that.”
