“I was supposed to pick her up.” I shrugged. “I got distracted.”
He shook his head. “I only met her for the first time the other night, but she’s a good one, Jack. Smart, hot…”
“Tell me something I don’t know.” The memory of her lips wrapped around me flooded back and my dick twitched.
“You’re an idiot. I mean, I don’t know how long you’re around Cali Cross for, but you could see how things pan out with her. Have a little fun.”
I contemplated telling him about the fun we’d had in the backseat of my car. But something stopped me. Lo was worth more than that. She was worth more than idle garage gossip. I took a bite out of the doughnut, the jelly squirting into my mouth. “You’re right, maybe I will,” I mumbled around the mouthful of dough.
Maddox clutched at his chest. “What? You’re actually going to take dating advice from me after all these years?”
I almost choked as I started laughing. “As if!”
“Come on, Jack, after everything you’ve been through, why not give it a shot?”
“You like her so much; you go out with her.”
“Lyla would have my balls if I even looked at another woman.”
I didn’t doubt it for a moment. If I was going to try and make things work with Lo, I had something to take care of. I fished my phone out of my pocket and dialed a number.
“Hi, it’s Jack Cairney. I have an appointment at two, but I need to change it.”
