I hoped, he wouldn’t be able to resist me either once I told him.

“Tell me about this proposal and then let’s get this over with,” Maddox grumbled.

I noticed he was shuffling around behind the desk, a towel at crotch level and I wondered what was going on under there.Oh, Maddox, just you wait.

“I’m sensing you’re not so open to my idea?” I quirked a brow at him.

His intense emerald gaze ran down the length of my body and a delightful shiver of want licked at my groin. “Any idea that has you coming here, dressed like…” He wagged a finger at me, his voice low and I had to strain to hear him, the rough undertone making my skin goose.

Was it possible that this was the moment he would see me as something other than Andre’s little sister?

I had to know.

“Like what?” I managed, voice strangled.

“Like sex on stilettos,” he ground out as he raked a hand through his hair.

Yes! Finally! I wasn’t just Andre’s little sister any longer.

I tried to suppress a grin and failed.

I had him.

Or at least I hoped I had.

Placing my hands on my hips again, I thrust my breasts in his direction. I watched him swallow hard; pretty sure that wasn’t the only thing about him that was hard right now. “There’s this car,” I started to explain.

He rolled his eyes and I thought I sensed some disappointment in him. “So just drop it off. I’ll fix it. I’ll give you the friends and family discount.” He shook his head and turned away from me, tapping on the keyboard next to the computer. “You didn’t need to dress up like that…” It was almost as if he’d dismissed me. I wasn’t about to let that happen.

“I’m not finished,” I interrupted. “I’m not talking about my car or Ianthe’s car or Andre’s car. You have no idea what I’ve found.” I paused for dramatic effect. “It’s an MG Midget. A genuine, original, British one from the seventies. A total classic. Or at least it will be once we’ve finished doing it up,” I finished triumphantly.

His head snapped up to face my again, his interest unmistakable.

Excitement rippled through me. I done it! I’d found his Achilles heel.

Maddox leaped up and closed the distance between us in a few short steps. He grabbed my hand, pulling me into the tiny office at the back of the garage. I stumbled trying to keep up, the heels weren’t made for trying to match pace with someone who moved at such a speed. But I didn’t complain; this was the first time he’d ever held my hand in any way, shape or form. His palm felt rough and slightly greasy at the same time, no doubt due to all the work he’d done during the day. My eyelids closed as I thought about those hands caressing my delicate skin and I grinned all the way to the office.I could barely wait.

I couldn’t tell Ianthe about this, even though she’d helped me pick out the outfit. She’d blab to anyone within a five-mile radius and I couldn’t run the risk of Andre finding out. But she would be so disappointed if it didn’t work. As would I.

And Maddox hadn’t seen the full effects of it. Yet.

My cheeks flamed as I thought about what I was planning to do, heart racing at the same time. Was I really about to pull this off?

He let go of my hand, grabbing a pad and pen from the desk from underneath the mountain of paperwork on there. How he ever found anything in that mess was a mystery. My shoulders dropped when he released me.

“What year? What condition? Where?” His pen was poised over the notebook, eyes gleaming expectantly.

This wasn’t quite what I had in mind.

Maddox fired questions at me one after another before I had a chance to think about the answers. Calmly, I told him what he wanted to know. I’d rehearsed the facts many times over, scared he’d ask me something and I’d stumble over the response. I’d studied harder than in finals week. I had to sound like I knew exactly what I was talking about. I had to be confident, knowledgeable, even though my mouth had gone dry and my heart was beating so fast I thought he could hear it.

More questions came my way, this time quieter and more deliberate. Like he was afraid if he spoke too loudly, the secret would be out and he’d have competition for the car. I answered everything like a professional.

What he didn’t know was that I already had the inside track, as I’d contacted the seller and pretty much done the deal over the phone. As long as Maddox was in, it was ours.

As he shot yet another question at me, I grabbed his face and pulled him in for a kiss, my heart pounding in my chest.

It worked.
