“We’d moved in together.”
“Such a joy that was, picking up your dirty washing, putting all your crockery in the dishwasher. Waiting up for you to come home after working here.” Saying it out loud made Olivia’s resolve harden. She wasn’t about to give Nic any hope that the two of them could get back together. He didn’t deserve it.
“There’s no need to be so nasty.”
“Nasty? You thinkthat’snasty?” Olivia exhaled a hard breath. “You think overhearing your so-called boyfriend gossiping about you with his little gang in a kitchen is nicer? Hearing him talk shit about you to his friends. Move on, Nic. I have.”
Nic’s lip curled. “Found yourself a little holiday fling, did you? Shagged some Spanish waiter with a thing for English birds?”
“What if I did, Nic? Why would it matter so much to you?”
“He’s welcome to you.” Nic pushed his stool back and stormed off.
Her heart pounded. There was no going back. It really was over between them.
Olivia reached for her glass and polished off the remains in one go. She felt her phone vibrate in her bag and reached for it. Seeing the message on the screen made her heart beat faster, in a different way. Brody:Missing you, babe, hope you’re not doing anything without me ;o) xxx
She glanced in the direction that Nic had stalked off in.
Whatever his intentions in wanting to get back with her, she knew he was no longer what she desired.
Brody was.
