“Brody? You okay?”
Nic’s voice brought him back to the present. “Sorry, Nic. I got distracted for a moment.” He gave a weak smile. “You were telling me about Olivia?”
He tried to listen as Nic told him how their relationship had gone wrong soon after moving in together, but drifted off again, random thoughts of Valentina filling his head.
“Okay guys? Been talking about women or football?” Caro’s arrival was timely. Brody didn’t know how much more he could listen to.
“Football,” said Brody.
“Women,” said Nic, at the same time.
Caro shrugged. “Whatever. Sorry I was so long. Alik got caught up talking to Parker about another studio session and it took longer than we thought.” She pulled a chair up to the table. “So how long do you think it’s going to take to do the renovations?”
That was one thing Brody appreciated about Caro. She always got to the point and didn’t sugar coat things she didn’t need to. He wished Olivia had been as open with him.
The thought nagged away at him as he went over the plans for the bar. By the time they’d finished, he’d made a decision.
“Thanks, Caro. I’ll be in touch with the full quote when I’m home.”
He stood up and shoved his notebook into his messenger bag, then pulled out his phone. Once he’d said goodbye to Caro and Nic, he composed a message to Olivia and pressed send.
