“I’m sure the UK team will get it done,” Brody reassured Caro and Nic.
“The Spanish side slipped a bit, didn’t it?” Nic looked between Brody and Olivia. “Didn’t you meet the workers while you were out there, Olivia?”
“I did. Brody was very thorough in chasing them up. The work they did while I was there almost brought the bar to completion.” Olivia’s felt Brody’s hand land on her thigh and tensed. She couldn’t have a sensible conversation with Nic while he was doing that. Hoping no-one saw her, she slid her hand under the table and tried to brush Brody off. Instead, he gripped her hand, his thumb softly caressing the skin of her palm. When she tried to pull away, he held her tighter.
“I like to make sure that everyone gets what they want.” Brody’s smile gave Olivia no doubt as to what he wanted right at that moment. His fingers insinuated their way underneath the hem of her skirt.
“I’ve got the details of the team who are going to be working here. A lot of them worked on the original build, so they’ve got the history.” Caro pushed a bunch of paperwork in Brody’s direction and he reached out with both hands to take it.
Olivia let out a silent breath, the exquisite tension abating. She couldn’t wait for the meeting to be over.
It appeared to go on for an age. Olivia only half-listened. If she had any actions, she didn’t have a clue what they were.
Finally, they were done.
“I could do with freshening up and getting some food.” Brody stretched in his seat and Olivia appraised the muscular body she’d missed. “What’s the place I’m staying in?”
“Cerise. I know it’s cliched, but I figured you’d want to see how the place is holding up.” Caro grinned. “Busman’s holiday, right?”
Brody responded with a throaty laugh. “It’s fine. It would be good to go back.” He threw a glance in Olivia’s direction. “Olivia, are you heading back to your office too?”
“I am. Give me a couple of minutes to pack this stuff up.” She didn’t miss the way Brody’s mouth curled up into a smile, his eyes glittering with anticipation.
They said goodbye to Caro and Nic, and then headed off. Brody pulled a small suitcase behind him, as well as having a messenger bag slung across his shoulder.
Once they were outside, he stopped her. “Are you heading straight back to work, or?”
The unspoken words made her shiver. She knew what he was suggesting, and she was so ready for it.
“I can probably take a little longer getting back. After all, what’s the point in being your own boss if you can’t finish a little early every now and again?” Olivia was dying for Brody to kiss her, but not directly outside The Indigo Lounge where her ex might come out any minute.
“I was hoping you’d say that.”
