“Oh, I don’t know. Maybe get some more staff in to get things back on track? Pay overtime, or maybe work your pretty little arse off until it’s finished? You’re the one on the ground over there, and there’s a deadline.”
“Olivia’s not going to be tracking everything then?”
“Like you said, she knows nothing about the build. She won’t be checking your expenses, but I will. You go over budget and I will have your balls. Not to mention your reputation.”
She was probably only half joking. Caro Flynn wasn’t someone you wanted to upset.
They spoke for a few more minutes before she had to go.
“Oh, there’s one other thing, Brody.”
“What’s that?”
“Make a move on Olivia and I’ll kill you. Right now, she doesn’t need someone like you messing with her head.”
Caro hung up, leaving Brody listening to dead air. He screwed up his face. She really did know him too well.
He sank back against the bar, not in the mood for any more work. He needed to clear his head. Before he left the building, he wrote some instructions for Carlos and the rest of the team. It was time for them to knuckle down and get the work done. His bike was parked in his usual place and he was tempted to head off for a ride.
His thing wasn’t relationships, it was one night, maybe a holiday fling or at stretch a brief affair.
It wasn’t falling for someone he’d just clapped eyes on.
It wasn’t looking forward to seeing that person again.
If he thought about it too hard, he knew he was in trouble.
