Chapter Twenty-Three

Jennifer

I park the car and quickly get out, making my way over to the passenger side.I open the door for Ethan. He looks at me as he slowly slides out of the car holding tightly onto his side.He is still in pain and is sore, but the doctor said he would make a full recovery. And even though they wanted him to stay longer than a week after waking up in the hospital, he wasn’t going for it.

He wanted to come home.

I wrap my arm around his waist allowing him to put his weight on me as I look up at his house. It’s not as big as Shawn’s but it’s still a mansion. It’s fucking gorgeous, surrounded by trees, and the front yard is full of green grass and flowers—every little detail planned out and put in the right spot.Which makes me smile as we begin to walk down the pathway toward the open front doors.

Emory came here first trying to get everything ready for Ethan. The doctors said he must take it easy but with Tristan still alive and waiting for him in Shawn’s basement, I don’t think he will be taking it easy ...at least not until Tristan is dead.

“Welcome home, sweetheart,” Ethan announces softly, wrapping his arm around me, making sure there is no space between us.

The wordhomehas my stomach filling with butterflies.I never thought I would ever get to have a home. And now Ethan’s home is mine, too.He has made it clear over this past week what his intentions are.And one of them is making sure we get married as soon as possible.

He can’t wait and, honestly, neither can I.But I did get him to promise we would wait until he fully healed. He didn’t seem too happy about waiting but he did agree to it.

He and I are both so stubborn and stuck in our ways it will make our marriage very fun and interesting, that’s for sure.

Shawn and Emory both walk out of the front door hand in hand. They are beautiful together.

“It took you guys long enough,” Emory smiles. She has been texting me nonstop since I told her we were leaving the hospital. It’s good seeing her and Shawn’s smiles again.

When Ethan first got brought to the hospital, they didn’t think he would make it and it was taking a toll on all of us.Up until the moment he opened his eyes and said something my heart was aching with the fear of losing him.

But now he is safe and healing. We all are.But it isn’t over yet.

“Are the kids here?”Ethan asks in a hopeful voice.

Shawn shakes his head but keeps the smile on his face.“No, man, they’re at the house with Sherri.”

“I want to see them.”He has been asking about the kids since we left the hospital. He’s worried about them.

“I think it’s best to wait until you heal more—they will go crazy when they see you, brother.”

Ethan nods as Shawn and Emory move to the side, allowing us to walk into the house.I can hear Shawn and Emory leaving us alone.I know they want to stay close, but they also know we need some time.

“I need to take a shower,” Ethan whispers. He has been going crazy in the hospital, and I know as soon as he woke up, he wanted to come home. But the doctors wanted to make sure he was out of the woods.Ethan is a lot of things, but patient is not one of them.

“Okay, baby” I murmur.

We slowly make our way down the hallway towards the master bedroom. When I walk into the bedroom it takes my breath away with how much detail is on the walls.Everything is a dark grey.

“Everything is so gorgeous.”I continue to look around the room.Ethan has good taste, and I am not surprised his house looks like it does.It fits him perfectly.
